Heading down Highway 97
After three cold and mostly rainy days in LaPine, we continued down Highway 97 into California, arriving in Red Bluff on Friday, October 16th. The temperature went from the low 30's in LaPine to the low 80's in Red Bluff. The last two weeks is all the winter we want... it's great to be back in the warm sun and to be back in shorts!

On our third day in LaPine we finally saw some clear skies so we drove up to Newberry Crater National Monument for one afternoon of sightseeing. The park was closed which meant we didn't have to pay an entry fee but it also meant the visitors center was closed and all of the signs were covered for the winter. Beautiful drive. We did hike up the Big Obsidian Flow trail and then down to (and back up) Paulina Falls.

The drive south to Red Bluff was very nice...clear skies, a good highway, and beautiful scenery. We're staying at Durango RV Resort with our friends Fred & Lani (they winter here) and Bob & Maxine (traveling thru on their way to Goodyear, AZ). So far we've played 18 holes of golf at Oak Creek Golf

A very empty campground!
Course, taken the Victorian homes walking tour, and eaten way too much good food! We leave here on Friday, driving all the way to Chico (45 miles-a tough day!!) where we'll spend two nights at the Elk's Lodge campground and visit our friends Tim and Lynn.
