golden girl
stopping for a restbite after biking across the golden gate bridge. The views were awesome. After our first night in san francisco, everybodies favourite town was not ours. Naturally every good bed in the city was gone. The last one left was in an...well an interesting part of town. At a little place not just bad, but so bad that Charlotte woke up in the middle of the night screaming
mummy.
That's no lie. We had to get out of there and a cheap "backpackers" hotel was the only option. That was much better, even though it was in tenterloin, still a bit crazy by night but much better.
It was just close enough to China town. And the food was goooood. So good we ate nothing but chinese food for days. \quite literally all three meals. But it was tasty.
And I think It is true. That whatever san fransico throws at you you'll still fall in love with it; after just one tram ride, Or one gaze out to alkatraz, or to the golden bridge hanging over the smog of the city.
And after spending a month in the states we were almost immune to all the weirdos. Almost is a very important word though.
We changed our minds at
the train station when we had missed the train from Oakland and sort of wanting to get out anywhere. So in a couple of minutes of madness Santa Cruz became our next stop. We had planned to visit cannery row at monterey. But because of the marathon our bus had left early. Well that was their excuse anyway.
Santa Cruz is great, the only trouble is it's home to the most crazy people in the world. Or at least in that part of California. We were convinced that the man on the bus who spoke of thirty degree heat during december in london was putting on his British accent. It was way too strong. He wanted to take us out that night and planned to come and find us at our hostel. Thank god he didn´t get us.
But there was more. The man who shouted up and down the main street wearing a ski mask and leather jeans in the boiling heat. It was like there were these zombies all around us, muttering to themselves or shouting at imaginary beasts. Kind of reminded me a bit of shaun of the dead. .
The beach was great
though; the surf was up and right behind us was a huge rollercoaster. It was a bit worrying queuing up for a rollercoaster celebrating it's hundredth birthday.
It showed that it was more than five times our ages but I guess that was all a part of the fun.
Then came the amusements. We might have gotten a bit addicted to a little game where you drop a bouncy ball in holes to win tickets and get prizes.
We got a little bit carried away, soooo... two carrier bags full of tickets, followed by two carrier bags full of crap we didn't need weighing us down, and I think we´ll just leave it at that... And we had to before they sent us too amusement addicts anonomous.
Our next stop was San Diego. Our train ride taking us right through orange county. "Is that the OC house...no...is that it...no."
San Diego was one of the best cities we had been to. It was huge but had a real small town feel. Everyone was really friendly, with not too many zombies people even said hello to eachother when they walked past.
It reminded me of southern Europe, or a really
coaster by the coast
This was santa cruz bay with the theme park behind it. nice sunny day in Bristol, maybe. And our hostel was great. The party room was closed so about twenty of us all ended up partying in one of the rooms. It was such a picture to see the faces of people who had come back to their dorm to get some shut eye. But they were always the life of it after a few minutes.
It was sad to leave but our final stop in the states was calling. And Los Angeles was huge: We only planned to go for our plane to exico. But La was so huge that it could have taken a week to find the airport. Sorry I´m gonna say huge again... La was so huge that we took two trams and a subway ride and it was still an hours bus to the beach. We stayed an extra night because Charlotte was meeting her friends kayleigh and Kirsty. It turned out to actually be pretty fun.
We stayed right on hollywood boulevard so we were right in the mix of things. One night we went out to get Mcdonalds. There was no kitchen is our excuse. When we came out the door there
stick up
It´s quite hard to see this but it´s the LAPD pinning some poor kids to the wall, with Mcdonalds... the real killer right behind them! were about ten police cars and eight guy's being pinned up against a wall. With their hands on their heads. They just looked like a normal group of young black kids, but the police were humiliating them. We didn't hear the boys do anything but the police had their guns in their hands just incase they did.
Then we crossed the road to see a huge girl beating the life out of some other much smaller girl. LA's crazy... And huge... but this all within a few minutes drive of beckhams new house.
The next day we were left without much to do. We had done the walk of fame... and peered at the hollywood sign. The beach was way too much effort so we figured shove it we'll go on one of those tacky tours we had been making fun of the whole trip. We didn't go on a red opentop bus...it was more of an open top jeep. The star homes tours. This is the house of ... um david beckham. Again? Call me cynical but I'm sure he was making it up.
Anyway I can't type anymore; on to Mexico. We´re gonna find a beach
surfer chick
totally riding out those killer waves and not move for a good little while.
