Yay!!! The Golden Gate Bridge! What a piece of engineering! This bridge is about 2.7km long and 27m wide and about 67m above the high water mark, how the heck did they manage that?
It is a spectacular view, the tall towers and the network of all the cables keeping chaos together, the gusty wind creating choppy waves and a powerful current making the water speed by..and a little to the right Alcatraz!! I should have been blonde..I had no idea it was in Frisco so BONUS!!! I got to see another thing I have always wanted to see! I was surprised that it was so small, way smaller than our Robben Island but way more cooler looking!
As per usual we dumped our suitcases in our rooms and hit the road to explore! It was freezing here! It felt colder here than in the snow, how can it be? it's sunny! It must be the constant wind...it really chills you down! brrrr..and out come all the jackets again!
Our hotel is right on the fisherman's wharf surrounded by touristy shops and restaurants, it's fitting that the hotel has a nautical theme and even the bedroom doors even
open outwards into the hallway (as on cabins in a ship)..Cool!
The next day we set off to explore town..
We went to Lombard Street by trolley car, you can either sit down or hang on the side, and as Jenni said..."it's all about hanging on the trolley in Frisco", so we did just that!
Lombard Street is the crookedest Street in America and had to be so crooked or else there would be no way down this steep hill (well safely anyway they say). The cars crawl down this road at a snail's pace and we couldn't resist the urge to walk down on it and get snappy happy with our cameras.
We visited an expensive mall...not more to say on that...and went to Pier 39, a very touristy spot... There are gift shops, street performers, gift shops, crab shacks and more gift shops...did I mention gift shops? There are also a few homeless people and beggers, but not the type we are used to in South Africa.. here their begging posters read "why lie? Need money for beer", and "need money for weed"...ok!!!
Some are very crafty, as Tamsin and I realised... walking down a very
Snap!
I'm obviously looking in the wrong direction.. busy pavement along the wharf out of nowhere a bush jumps in front of us with a hussling noise and sends us both off squeeling like whistles! We got such a huge fright! Jason and Marc enjoyed that though! This homeless dude broke a branch of a tree, hid behind it and when he sees dilly chickies come by he jumps up! I was in too much shock to still think of rewarding him for the thrill ride that we unvoluntarily went on!
I can't believe how different Seattle and San Francisco can be from each other, I don't know which is better..they are both really nice, but just different..
Our aching feet and backs were a sure sign that it was time to head back to the hotel and rest up before going for dinner later...
JUNGLE FEVER
Dave and Jenni treated us to an amazing dining experience at the Rainforest Restaurant. Walking inside you first have to walk through their....wait for it.... yip you guessed it.. ANOTHER GIFT SHOP before being taken to your table upstairs in the jungle... and that is where I got my MOOO p.j's from! I love all things cow!
fire escape
not in a hurry! There were robotic animals and plants everywhere and huge amazing fishtanks that made Jason's eyes light up! The animal sounds and waterfall was so loud but it created a 'lekker vibe'!. This is something South Africa should have for it's tourists... aaaahhh it was so crazy nice! Absolutely loved it!
What a cool way to end our stay in Frisco!
