When: 26th September
Where: Treasure Island, San Francisco
What: San Francisco International Dragon boat Festival For once, everything fell into place & we left home at leisure by 6.30am to reach Treasure Island by 8.00am.
Here's a little something on
Treasure Island.
We had enough time to even stop for breakfast at Noah's. That's definitely something
Finding a parking spot in Treasure Island(though there were free shuttles from Powell[BART] & China town) was extremely important for us as we were carrying food for little S.
We also wanted to watch a little bit of the race without that much crowd as well.
As we reached TI, we were glad to find parking as there were hoards of cars before & after us.
Turned out that this year's crowd was next to nothing. A novice paddler informed us that there were at least 4 times the people during previous years.
Little S enjoyed watching the boats & the dogs & sometimes the people too. This went on for about 3 hours.
But we were astonished that she fell asleep to a rap song on heavy volume. With her asleep all we could do
was have a picnic lunch before we left shortly.
The races were cool, but how many races can you watch? Specially, when you don't have to root for anyone? The race runs 8.00am - 5.00pm.
It was an exceptionally hot day & we were only glad to return home.
We may not go back to this festival again, but for one who wants to go, you can probably be around for a couple hours, that is, unless you don't have a toddler running around to all the dogs(& people too).
