Tanner getting his bath beads Seufer6: Destination: San Francisco
January 18, 2007
Day 1: After a few days in Laguna Beach we headed to San Francisco! At the airport we checked 10 bags and they were pretty much all over the weight limit. We flew all the way of course. It was a pretty short flight. I sat with Lilly and my dad, and behind us was Emma, Mom, and Tanner. It seemed like a long flight (actually only 1 hr. & 20 mins.) but we managed to get through the whole thing. When we arived we walked with all of our stuff to a big long, black, pretty limo. It was neat to ride in. We got to our hotel which was called The Huntington Hotel and is on California Street in a place called Nob Hill. We met up with our concierge named Shay and she showed us around.
The Huntington Hotel is really old and is still privately owned. Along time ago it was a big apartment building and now it is a real fancy hotel. It was pretty because it had this beautiful vine growing up the front of it. Then mom and dad went to dinner so I had

Day 2: Today we got a taxi right away and went to a big ferry boat that said "Alcatraz Tours" on it, so we got on. The weather was absolutley beautiful for the ride to the island. It was about a 10 minute boat ride to Alcatraz which is a big island that used to be a military base and a prison. Lucky thing that it's retired. It was pretty scary seeing the holes in the jail cells that people dug through to try to escape but no one knows what happened to them. It was pretty scary when the tour guide was telling us all of the stories about it, but anyway then we took the boat back to the boat dock and went to the Fisherman's Wharf to do more shopping and sight seeing. I didn't buy anything but my brother did. He bought BATH SALTs! Don't ask why. Now he

Theres Tanner with the magic guy hammering a nail in his nose.
EWWW smells so yummy when he bathes! He was also picked for a magic show where the magic guy hammered a nail in his nose and walked on real glass. There were a lot of interesting street performers doing all kinds on talented things, some looked like statues, there was a clown, a magician, and one guy was hidden like a bush and would scare people. All the street performers worked for tips. It was fun to see.
On the way back to our hotel we walked through China Town and it was interesting. I imagine it is just like being in China. It was so busy because all of the markets had just got their food in and everyone was shopping. There was a lot of interesting food for sale in China Town, like a bucket full of frogs--OOOH!!! Then we went back to the hotel to get a babysitter to watch us and our cousins Carson and Cooper so their parents Tiffany and Jeff could go to dinner with my mom and dad. Tiffany is my mom's cousin that she grew up with in Canon City. We are excited for tomorrow!

Day 3: Today
SF
There's us on the Alcatraz Tours boat. is one of our tour days so, we went to the park across the street from our hotel room. Lilly and Emma loved the old fashioned playground. The slide was made of metal and had little rolly things going down it. Then we hopped on the trolley cable car and rode it forever all the way down California Street. There are 2 guys that run the trolley cars and they stop at every street corner to let people on and off. It was neat because there were cars zooming by and people walking everywhere. It was a neat way to see the city and go up and down the incredibly steep hills. We finally hopped off the trolley car and started walking. It seemed like we walked forever, we were walking to the Golden Gate Bridge so our cousins Jeff, Tiffany, Carson, and Cooper could give us a tour. After so much walking, we were lost, so we all hopped in a Taxi, which took us to the beginning of the Golden Gate Bridge. We met up with our cousins, who had this big van for all of us to sit comfortably in.
Our cousin Jeff was a great

The street performers were pretty cool!(That clown scared me) tour guide and took us to all of his favorite places. We first drove across the Golden Gate Bridge, which was amazing. The bridge opened in 1937. It is 1.7 miles long. The length of the steel wires used to make the cables is enough to circle earth 3 times! WOW! It is 5 times stronger then it needs to be to withstand the wind and tides from the ocean. More than 41 million cars go across the bridge every year. It is such a big bridge. Across the bridge is a small cute town called Sausalito. We drove to Union Square where all the good shopping is. Then we drove up 2 windy mountains where we could get a good 360 degree view of the city, the ocean and the bay. It was called Twin Peaks. Finally we drove to our cousins house in Millbrae which is just outside of San Francisco! We were there for a while. We played trains and detectives with our cousins because they are still really little. Carson is 4 and Cooper is 2 months old. After pizza, playing and talking about old times, we went back to our hotel.

There's me and my cousin Cooper. Day 4: Today we woke up, ordered room service for breakfast, got ready, packed and headed across the street to Grace Chapel for Church. Grace Chapel is a massive and beautiful church inside and out. Lilly didn't like the service so much, so I took her outside to play on the big steps. Then mom, dad, Tanner, and Emma came out. Dad caught a taxi to go pick up our minivan from the car rental place. While he did that we all went to Peet's coffee shop under the church. Mom got a coffee, I got a hot tea, Tanner got a hot chocolate and Emma and Lilly got milk. It was yummy. Then to the park to play until Dad gets the minivan. We will drive east to Lake Tahoe this afternoon and be there for 7 full days and we can't wait....
Special thank you to Tiffany, Jeff, Carson, and Cooper for giving us such a great tour of the city. We really feel like we saw a lot in such a short amount time.
We had a blast in San Francisco. We miss you all so much!
Love,
