Golden Gate
A great bike ride Oliver:
Well, we finally got away. After a pretty full day at school in Welly we flew into brilliantly sunny SF and spent the next 3 days catching up with old friends, checking out the Exploratorium, (Very cool) and otherwise pottering around the city.
Near the Exploratorium is the Palace of Fine arts - a giant testament to the USA's own ego, a great big greek style dome. I cant blame 'em - must be annoying, people going 2 europe to see Greek ruins! ' huh we've got ruins an ours r in perfect condition!!'
Martin:
Louis was very reluctant to get up in the sunny SF mornings (jet lagged)- managed to entice him with the prospect of a bike ride over to Sausalito - the home of a legendary sweet shop his brother visited two years previously. So hired 4 bikes and had a relaxing ride thru Crissy fields and along the waterfront, over the Golden Gate bridge and down to Sausalito. There is not much to do there except eat lunch. It took about 1 and half hours each way.
We visited the sweet/candy shop "try whatever you like" they call out as you
enter. Seems like commercial suicide, but by the time you have bought $20 worth of lollies you realise there is method in their madness.

Lovely to read your blog. We should have done this earlier on our own travels. Now we are beginning our last lap. Christmas in the Scottish Highlands then a few days with old friends in Hampshire and then home via Vietnam. BJ and Eleanor nd Tishy and Mike will be with us in the ghillie's cottage which we have rented for a week. It sounds a bit like Monach of the Glen territory. If we get snowed in we should be able to shelter in the Big Hoose. No chance of you lot getting snowed in where you are going. Jim
