San Diego: La Jolla

This morning I got chatting to one of the women, called Jillian from New Jersey, that I'd spoken to the evening before and mentioned that I planned to go up the coast to have a look around Mission Beach, Pacific Beach and La Jolla (pronounced La Hoya), and she said she'd been thinking of doing the same and would give me a lift up in her hired car. So off we went with our directions and rather surprisingly found it very easily,a lthough was a little bit scary, what with being on the wrong side of the road and being in the car with a New York driver!!

When we got out of the car we realised we were parked right by a sea lion cove so we went over and watched them sunbathing a messing around in the water right in front of us and completely wild - it was ace!! We watched them for a while and then walked along the coast a bit and found this really quiet little bay with a white sandy beach, turquiose waters and it was almost completely empty it was ace!! After a bit of sun bathing we got backin the car and drove back down towards point loma, stopping off at a town called Mission Beach, which has a very similar time-warped feel to OB, although is alot bigger, much more touristy and also a little seedy. But the beach was amazing going on almost as far as the eye can see and properly like a scene straight out of baywatch, complete with lifeguards with clevage up to their chins (men included) and jam packed! We had a poke around and found a cafe that sold smoothies/sorbets (a bit odd), and then we tootled off back to the hostel. When I got back I discovered that a new woman had moved in from my dorm. She's a bit scary, sits and talks to herself and looks like she's either straight out of jail or an asylum!! Nice! Ah well, only a few more days left!! x
