I dedicate this email to my buddy, Webb. Please understand, Webb has been to the beach in Rio!!! Most everyone knows about the famous nude beach here in San Diego. Black's Beach is a legend of sorts. Besides its notoriety as a nude beach, it also sits near the famous Torrey Pines Golf Course. But there might be more to this famous beach than meets the naked eye. First, Black's Beach is named after the thoroughbred horse breeding Black family. But the land was later sold, subdivided, and became La Jolla Farms. Black's Beach did not become a mecca for surfing until the Sixties. There are multiple routes to the beach, none very easy. Most require rock scrambling and a steep descent or climb. I would assume then, that getting there might best be accomplished while ... read more

This is the first of two blogs about our trip to California for my son Will and daughter in law Mercy's wedding. Our daughter Rosanna suggested that we join her family, Evan and grand children Connor and Logan for a mini vacation in San Diego before going to the wedding venue in Temecula. Of course, we agreed as we wanted to spend quality time with each member of our family, which is so often lost when there is a large gathering. 15 May 2022 Sunday. This was our travel day. Flying in this day and age is so miserable with delays and full flights. This was to be no exception. While waiting in line to board the flight from Colorado Springs to Denver, where we would catch a connecting flight to San Diego, an announcement was ... read more

We are heading back west to LA nearly completing our California/Oregon/Washington/Montana/Wyoming/Colorado/Arizona/Nevada (phew!) loop. Leaving Silverton we headed to Mesa Verdi National Park. This park is different from other US parks in that its main aim is to preserve the buildings of the ancient Puebloans, who settled here in the 13th century, staying only about 75 years. They left behind unique mysterious dwellings built into the cliff face, added to the fact that we had to drive high into these hills that overlook the surrounding plains, building and living in these dwelling must have presented great challenges. They would have farmed food and kept their animals up on the top plains, then climbed down into their dwellings. After stopping at various overlooks and the museum we drove back down the hills for an overnight stay in Cortez. ... read more

The emotion associated with leaving people and the place that you have lived for the past 20 years is of course huge, but this blog is not about that personal side of events, but rather about what comes from motorcycling to clear ones head for what lies ahead in life. This blog is about a 2500 mile motorcycle trip and what happens on the way. Its about the sheer joy of motorcycling through the ups and downs that occur on any long trip and the people that share that trip with you. The trip today is all about route 8 east which I joined from route 67 having left Poway (where I live for now) by what I would call the back route - that is away from the coast. It strange to be traveling the ... read more

I made my way to La Jolla Cove to see the seals and wildlife. It was my first time to the ocean (however I did not go in it). I guess people say that there is a special smell in the area because of the seal life. I did not get that aroma but I have no sense of smell to tell you otherwise. It was nice to see seals in their natural habitat. I notice that there were scars on a few of them but there was definitely heavy scars on one of them that was beaching on a rock. Can you imagine the rough life (s)he has had so far and still managing to be around? The seal was alive, breathing, moving. But just the harm to him. A lot may be unintentional (boat ... read more

I did not go for walk in the morning. R went. Amma called as usual at 7.30. Spoke to her since R had given me the phone. At 9.30 Sri, Shanthi, AJ, R and myself left for San Diego to see AJ's college. Reached before 11.00. College tour started at 11.10..a walk tour around the college campus that went on till 12.45! At just the second stop near the International Student Center i decided to discontinue the tour and stayed back. Had our lunch at the food court at the college. Then proceeded to downtown SanDiego. Saw the Hotel Del Coranado, built in 1884, a sea-side resort. It is made of wood and has a beautifully unique architectural style. Since it is a hotel of historic interest there were many visitiors like us walking around and ... read more

Today is our only full day in San Diego, which is a shame as we both LOVE it here and there is loads to do! We decided to go to a beach for the day as we saw loads from the train on the way here, and were recommended to go to La Jollla as it has interesting wildlife. The place was absolutely beautiful with cliffs and little beaches nestled in amongst them and we found one which had some rocks a few metres out with a seal on it! To quote 1 girl that we heard: ''the sand is so soft... like angels''. Well I'm not even sure I know what an angel feels like, but the beach was pretty nice. There were about 3 seals playing in the surf really near to the beach ... read more

This has been a highly anticipated day; sea kayaking down in La Jolla.. This is a very picturesque beach town just north of San Diego with a fantastic beach. There are caves along the coast and when the conditions are right you can go into the caves. When we hit the beach the waves are slightly higher than the 3 ft. and we watch the kayakers try to launch into the waves. We are trying to get pointers so that we are not one of those that capsize in the breakers. After a very short instruction we launch into the ocean and hope for the best. I'm in the front and when the first wave hits us the nose of the kayak is pointing to the heavens and I am flying off the seat and hoping ... read more
