Day Six - Universal Studios

Day Six - Universal Studios! Soooo great - a very awesome day 😊
Favourites were the Studio Tour - 45mins in a tram car around the Universal Lots 😊 we saw the building that CSI are shot in (Sound Stages), drove up Wisteria Lane, saw an example of pyrotechnics from Fast and Furious, went past the 747 they destroyed for War of the Worlds, saw some of Who-Ville from The Grinch, experienced a flash flood in Mexico and an earthquake in a subway station and saw numerous outdoor facades for shooting, including the NY set that they are currently rebuilding after the fire last year. The rides were great too 😊 the 3-D ones (Shrek and Terminator) are out of this world - Tinkerbelle flew straight at us, and the terminator evil spider thing tried to poke our eyes out 😊 Jurassic Park was awesome in its relative age - mechanical dinosaurs are amazing :p and yes, I got soaked. The new Simpsons ride is really good too - it’s like the Future Rush ride at Te Papa, where you sit in the motion master car and it moves on hydraulics. But the Simpsons ride is waaaay better - very cool 😊 The Mummy ride was really good but incredibly short, especially compared to the time we were in the queue - though we were right in front of a group of 12 year old girls who were constant entertainment as they stuck their hands in holes in the wall and screamed when air rushed at them. It was very funny.
There were also special effects shows - one for video and sound (blue screening an audience member into dinner in Christmas with the Kranks and putting vocals and sound effects to scenes from Tinkerbelle, Evan Almighty and King Kong). The other was a pyrotechnic display based on the movie Backdraft - we saw the final scene played out with all the fire - it was brilliant - and it got really hot when the flames were close 😊
There is also the CityWalk, which is the mall between the car park and Universal, with lots of classy shops - tons of 'candy' shops - and some flash restaurants. It was great fun to walk through browsing 😊
