Sorry for the lack of updates lately, we have had pretty scarce service. We have quite a few photo updates.
The first section is our last hike in Sedona. We hiked Bear Mountain which was pretty steep with many false peaks. Pretty amazing at the top, and well worth waking up early and hiking in lots of water.
After leaving Sedona we spent the night in Flagstaff and headed west to CALI!!! As you saw we were happy to get our toes in the Pacific and explore a more familiar terrain, beach-grass-rocks....feels a little like home after being in the dessert for so long.
The next group of pictures-We spent a day/night on Big Sur, a pretty familiar part of California 1 that was highly recommended by a few. The rocky coast line is intense! Big rolling hilly farmland, that meet a steep jagged rocky coast of teal bright blue. Lots of colors for the eyes to take it, and the cliffs make your stomach drop a little if you stand close. We camped right on the water which was beautiful, and met a neighbor who has been on a *walking* road trip for 3months...traveling 1700miles so far-wow!.
We woke up early to ride along the coast. The road doesn't have much (if any) shoulder so we got out before the traffic.
Landing in San Fran we actually found a parking spot (keep in mind we are towing a trailer!!!) and went out to dinner with our cousin Maggie. Nice to have a touch of family out here in Cali. The hills in that city are incredible! We kept thinking back to a documentary we saw about the guys who ride 'fixies'- they are a single gear bikes with no breaks, I can't even begin to think of riding those hills with no breaks.
We left the city at night and drove late into the night toward Mendocino County- wine country. This is California's northern most 'wine' region, known for their Pinot Noir grapes. We camped in the heart of the vineyards near a river and did a few wine tastings the first day, spending the rest doing a WOD and playing by the river. The next morning we left early for a 40+ride through the wine country. It was a pretty scenic ride touring the wine country, into the giant Red Woods and landing us
on the coast of Route 1. From there we headed south on Route 1 and cut back in toward our campground. This was an 18mile stretch UPHILL....and by uphill I mean, the first 2 miles were a 10%grade!!! I was feeling like a beast when I reached the top of that stretch and happy to think of a downhill ahead of me.......little did I know the 18mile stretch probably totaled 12 miles of HILLS- serious HILLS. UGH!!!! Good leg workout day in the books!
Time for some beach strolling and heading north.....this stretch of Route 1 was just our style, lots of rivers and big trees feeding straight into the ocean. The driftwood was endless- and HUGE. This morning we woke up and found ourselves a river spot, I cooked us a fancy breakfast followed by a WOD and swim in the river- not a bad morning! Then it was time to find a town with some groceries and Much needed laundry. Camping on the ocean tonight, I think we'll head back to the river spots for a few days (which means we wont have service) and then headed north toward the Oregon coast!!!
For the first time
today we put a time table to the remainder of our trip making sure we had time to reach some of our "must go" destinations!! We're in good shape with lots of extra time to explore. Looks like we will hit the Oregon coast- spending lots of time exploring, and a few days in Portland. We will go as far north as Olympic Park and then jut south toward Moab UT, Durango CO then 😞 East toward Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley.
A special shout out to our mothers who give us ENDLESS support and who encouraged us the most to make this trip happen. Its a dream trip, and we couldn't have done it without you both. Its been a very special year and we are both blessed now with TWO special ladies in our lives.
love from the open road- and enjoy this CHUNK of photos and catching up. Traveling North on Route 1 may leave us out of touch for a little bit. *SP XOXO

Sunsets
Great photos once again. Wish we could be there having a glass of wine & watching the sunset. Love your "new home" idea, I could make that work too. Love, Mom
