Well, we just left the center of the retired world, Yuma, AZ. We really enjoyed our visit and will definitely come back again to explore a little more. I think the main draw to Yuma is actually the people. Bob was able to visit with a lot of people that he hasn't seen in a long time and we have really enjoyed getting to know Dan and Linda who let us park the Cameo in their back yard. We had a blast playing games - old and new. (this is where I have to say "Girls RULE and boys DROOL!") We went to "Midnight at the Oasis" car show and had a great time. The weather was kinda wierd, but not horrible. Saw a lot of really well done restorations. Most were pretty impressive. I can't wait to (try to) help Bob with the Cadillac. It excites me to think that we can get that car looking and running like some of the classics we see at these car shows. I know it won't be any show car or anything, but it's possible to get it looking pretty good and running well. Anyway, they even got me (ME!) on a go kart. Racing around and around on a little track, feeling extremely self conscious, being rammed from behind by a snot nosed 13 year old brat who can't read the signs saying "no bumping in to other cars", all the while being in consistantly LAST place no matter how hard I tried. Oh, sure - no, really - can we do it again? Bah ha ha! Just kidding. It wasn't too humiliating... In all seriousness though, we really had a great time. It was a blast to get to know and create a new friendship that we are hoping will last a long time. We did get to spend a little time with Rod and Colleen, but not near as much as we had hoped. We even stayed an extra week in Yuma, but didn't get to everything we wanted to do. Next time fo' sho'. I have to say that I've discovered that the desert is very much alive! I walked Allie out back down in the wash every morning and it's amazing. The Quail and doves - an abundance I haven't seen since I was a kid on Bainbridge. It is so neat seeing the quail everywhere. I can

Can you see this? I wasn't sure...
picture this wash later in the spring. Momma and daddy quail crossing through the sand and rocks with a trail of little babies running just as fast as they can to keep up. There are Flickers everywhere, little song birds playing out Spring time rituals, Killdeer protecting their nesting spot by pretending to have a hurt wing, and huge Vultures off in the distance over the desert. There are Jack Rabbits and little cottontails that ran in and out of the bushes around the wash on the trail ahead of us. Allie chased them as far as they would let her - I just had to make sure they didn't run her onto the golf course like they did a couple of times... I always thought that the desert was so lifeless - boy was I wrong. God's creations are everywhere - and in abundance! I have included some pictures with this blog. A lot of the animals, but some of our most gracious hosts, Dan and Liinda. I have one of all of us, but we couldn't get Allie into the picture because it was too close to the pool. When ever she came into their back yard area,

Our extremely gracious hosts - We can't thank you enough for your hospitality!
she would hug the fence all the way around - as far as conceivably possible from the pool. She doesn't do 'new and different' very well.... There is also a picture that shows the wonderful view we had one evening from our luxurious accommodations.... Wow! (Oh, and I may not need to point this out, but I thought I would mention that if you are a subscriber to this blog you are able to read this and look at the pictures at your liesure, when ever you have the time. The poor people who don't subscribe will have to sit through all of our stories and pictures in one sitting the next time we cross paths in person...) Another thing that we learned from our visit with Dan and Linda is the whole concept of "Casita's". What a GREAT idea! A small building with everything you need to be comfortable. Exactly what we need for the property in Eastern Washington! It's something that we can throw up in a week or two and it would be useful right away. A bathroom with a nice big shower, a small "kitchenette", small living area... We are excited about designing it. It would

not only be useful right away, but we'd be able to use it after we build a full use cabin, and it would be great for resale, not to mention maybe renting it out during the winter hunting season. At any rate, we are now in Phoenix - well, Goodyear to be exact. All the parks in the area are full now because of Spring training, so we really appreciate Uncle Don and Aunt Darlene allowing us to take their spot. They weren't able to come this year because Don has some surgery coming up and couldn't be away from home. Please pray for a speedy surgery date and recovery for him! We will probably make reservations for next year with "the group", but we want to hit a couple of games to see if it's something we really want to do. I need to note at this point that this spot at Destiny RV park happens to be the only spot in the park with it's own Fire hydrant. Angry fire hydrant. Viscious, deceitful, bitter fire hydrant... Thank goodness I was watching the back of the trailer - not the front where Bob was going backward and forward to get the Cameo in perfectly straight, being aware of the hydrant's existance, but not it's exact position. I can't tell you how many times I have heard him say "I can't believe I did that" since then... There is about a 3" little gash in the bottom of the door now. That's dent #2. So, anyway, the cat is extremely upset that we won't let her out without her "string". She had actually escaped a couple of times, but she comes back. Allie is just happy to be with us. The weather isn't really cooperating with us, but it won't stop us from getting to some games. We're going to go get some tickets this morning and probably hit our first game this afternoon.
