Omg, where to begin again after missing a day. So much riding and action and sights packed into the last 2 days. It has been so amazing and thrilling for me. Especially the last part of today. I friggen love this place!! I want to stay and explore more!! We have also been so lucky with our weather!
We left Anchorage yesterday morning. It had rained over night, and still looked as though it would. It was a chilly day, so we were both plugged in. Once again beautiful mountain and river views.Curvy fun road, nice pavement, the Glenn highway. We wound up stopping at a great viewpoint with a glacier nestled in the mountains, and there were a couple of guys there also on their Harley's, from California. Next thing you know a good 45 minutes or so went by as we chatted away with them.
The day was great, and we managed to keep skirting the rain, which made it even better! It was a good 10 hour day plus some. 440.7 miles. We crossed the border back into Canada, and stayed again at Buckshot Betty's in Beaver Creek. Canada's most westerly place. This time we stopped
and snapped our pictures of that sign as well as the Alaska sign, cause as we crossed it the first time it was very busy and a line up at the border so we just got in line. Yesterday evening was nice and quiet. After checking in to the same rustic cabin we had some beers and a delicious spaghetti supper. There was a large group from Finland who were there for dinner. They flew over and rented Harley's in Seattle. It rained just as we were having dinner.
Today also started out cloudy and cool. We had to ride back down that stretch of road with all the frost heaves and pot holes, gravel and construction. Somehow it didn't seem as bad as the first time. About 50 miles into the ride we saw another grizzly with a cub right beside the road. Soooo cool! Once we arrived in Haines junction we were met again with more gravel and road construction. We headed south for Haines, our final Alaskan destination where we will board our ferry tomorrow morning for our 39 hour ferry trip to Prince Rupert BC.
Neither of us had any idea what we were
in for on this last 250 km stretch. We were literally climbing and climbing up and up the mountain tops. It was super cold and felt like winter! It really felt like we were in the wild. I saw 7 more bears! (And a porcupine) 3 of the bears separately, and then another Grizzly and 2 bear cubs. It is so great to see them like this. I love it! This time I stopped to watch them as they were far enough back from the road in a field that I didn't feel worried of being attacked. So cute to watch them, the little cubs frolicking and chasing after mom. I was absolutely frozen and Bruce kept going stopping to wait for me further up the road. There was snow everywhere too. The climb thru these mountains was unreal. I was starting to wonder if I'd be seeing polar bears next! We finally ended up approaching the border crossing again, but not before we pulled over to empty our gas canisters into our tanks cause we were both going to run out of gas. We never expected there to be nothing or nowhere to stop along the way. After the
border crossing it was another 40 miles to town and a gas station. I saw my last bear about 10 miles before town. Again right off the road, I saw it but actually thought it was fake to begin with. It just looked so cute and unreal chomping on something in the bush. I have been getting such a thrill from seeing all these bears. Major bear country, bear poop in lots of spots on the roadway.
We are staying on beach road just off of the ocean. It was about another 10 hour day for us. 339.4 miles. Fourth of july fireworks are just going off right now. We are up the hillside here. We went into town and had wicked fresh halibut and chips. The best I've ever had. A really cute town surrounded by mountains and water. Major bald eagles here too. One of the locals told me the best time to see them is in winter when the water levels are low. A good 5 to 10,000 are all around he said. That would be a cool site to see! I am really looking forward to what we will get to see from our ferry.
We will be going all down the coastline. First stop from here will be Juneau I believe. Not sure if I will get wifi on the boat?
In a way though, I am sad to be leaving here already. Time has just flown by!

Very cool
Sounds soooo awesome !!! About the fireworks - was it dark? Or did they shoot them off in the nighttime light? Happy 4th !!!
