Weiterreise nach Merida. Wir packen am Morgen unsere Sachen und entscheiden uns für Frühstück im Hotel. Der Kaffee ist ok, es gibt Papaya, Bananen, Melone sowie eine Auswahl einheimischen Gebäcks. Kein Top-Frühstück aber ok. Zwischenziel ist heute die Cenote Ik-Kil unweit von Chichen Itza. Wir kommen gegen 10Uhr und sind am frühen Morgen fast die einzigen Besucher. Die Cenote ist wirklich beeindruckend, ein kreisrundes Loch im felsigen Untergrund, überwuchert von Lianen, 17m tief. Über eine Treppe steigen wir hinunter, unten angekommen ist Aaron natürlich zuerst im kühlen Nass. Das Wasser hat eine Tiefe von fast 50m, Aaron stört das wenig, für Annett ist es ziemlich unheimlich. Dear All Greetings again from Mexico! Yay!! I’ve made it back to this wonderful country, and I’m actually so glad to be here again. Whilst Belize was an experience, I’ve decided to add it to my (very small) list of countries which I would not choose to visit again in the foreseeable future, along with Russia and Venezuela. I will relate more on this below, but for now it’s sufficient to say I’ve really enjoyed my travels again since arriving back in Mexico on Sunday, this country is so hospitable, warm and welcoming. Pretty much the opposite I’d say to Belize, which has probably made me appreciate Mexico even more – you can’t have the good without the bad, so they say. Mexico – Rivera Maya 29th May – 13th June It's that time of year again and we are off for 2 weeks of sun, sea and non-pebble beaches in Mexico! A nice early 5am start, bound for Gatwick for our flight on the Thomson Dreamliner (apparently ubér modern and fancy) to Mexico for two weeks of 5-star sun, sea, sand and Mayan hospitality. Some airport fun and games at Alfonso's restaurant, quickly seated but no one to server us for 20 minutes... in a very British way we depart for Jamie Olivers after saying no thank you to Alfonsos bad service. Tradition is the order of the day with a full fry up before out inflight (no-doubt) delish food! HE SAID... Today we were travelling west from Playa del Carmen to Chichen Itza and then on to Merida. We woke early, organised our packs and left Hotel Casa Tucan and walked to the bus station, which was just around the corner (and over the road from the Corpus Christ Church where we had been the night before). We grabbed an iced coffee, chocolate milk and a couple of muffins for breakfast, then jumped onto the luxurious public bus at 8am (luxurious, that is, in comparison to the minibuses we had been travelling in for the past two weeks). Päivällä oltiin hotellilla. Ostin pienen pullon paikallista punaviiniä. Klo 15 lähdettiin hankkiutumaan kohti Chichen Itzaa. Mentiin bussilla Pisten kylään asti ja käveltiin sieltä pari kilometriä. Valoshow alkoi klo 19 ja kesti vajaan tunnin. Se ei edes maksanut mitään kun olin osannut hankkia liput oikeaa kautta. Piti hakea lappunen oikeasta paikasta, rekisteroitya netissa ja tulostaa lippu. En tullut katsoneeksi olivatko ohjeet vain espanjaksi. Käveltiin takaisin Pisteen 25-vuotiaan saksalaisen Karolinan kanssa. Han osasi hyvin espanjaa ja oli matkustanut paljon Latinalaisessa Amerikassa. Osa matkasta oli pimeässä ja lamppu oli hyvä olla mukana. Päästiin takaisin colectivolla. Illalla käytiin syömässä. Tähtitaivas näkyi hienosti pitkin yötä: ensin Chichen Itzassa, sitten paluumatkalla colectivosta ja lopuksi viela hotellin kattoterassilla.... read more
