As we travel further South into the Caribbean down towards South America, we are experiencing blissful 90+ degree temperatures. Life in Tenerife means we are already pretty acclimatised to this with plenty of hydration, sunscreen, common sense and shade when required. There is a very constant reminder that the sun must be respected at all times. We have already seen many passengers of all ages on board that have fallen foul of this.
Our tour today was not due to start till 11.00 am this morning. We arose at a reasonable time and had a lengthy breakfast and coffee in the Lido.
We should have arrived in Cozumel at about 10.00 am this morning, but this was delayed to about 10.45 am. Not sure as exact times as we are without watches, but we were obviously late. The Carnival team strict efficiency plans sprang into action yet again. They got all people with booked trips off the boat first in operational superfast time and disembarked directly onto land. Carnival has its own purposely built mooring and port here so no need to catch a tender to shore. We think it was about 11.15 am we actually made shore.
Each time you disembark the boat, you encounter the Carnival Paparazzi who are always keen to snap you. Everything you do on board that looks good on camera, they seize the opportunity. We have so many photographs from Carnival and our own of course. All the Carnival photographs were displayed but there was never any pressure to buy them. It was not at all oppressive. We did purchase some Carnival photographs / frames that were very reasonably priced.
Once again, in this part of the world, we enjoyed our opportunity to speak some Spanish again. The gratification received was immense.
Our tour today took us to a local museum all about Mexican history, especially Pyramids. This was all very interesting. And, again, the tour guide was very good at ensuring that everyone was having a good time. At the end of the tour, we got to have a taste of typical Mexican Tacos. This was followed by some Mexican dancers. This was another really great day out.
We were back on the boat for about 1.00 pm and headed in for a light lunch.
George still suffers from Sciatica and had seen details in the daily
Carnival brochure for a full body massage and other treatments. After lunch at 2.00 pm, George headed off for some therapy on deck 11 and Theresa headed back off the boat for a wander around the local shops with George’s credit cards.
George’s booked massage was originally for one and a half hours, but it actually lasted over 4 hours. George had struck exceptionally lucky with this because the masseur specialised in lower back issues and was very keen to unleash her professional / intense skills in lower back pain relief over an extended time period in her own time. Theresa was understandably worried that maybe something had happened to George, but in reality, there was not much that could done as we were now at sea again. George emerged from his treatments safe and well. He believes he had visited another world and was positively rejuvenated. Details were again exchanged, as the masseur at her partner are already regular visitors to Tenerife. (Del Duque, Adeje)
The boat still left port on time today at 5.00 pm sharp. There were a few people that got carried away in the shops and alcohol etc. At 4.45pm, the ship head
count had been completed. A broad loud announcement was made aboard the ship for those persons / offenders who were not present. For the next 15 minutes and every two minutes thereafter, the ships powerful marine horns were repeatedly sounded 3 times to alert those concerned the ship would be leaving without them. These miscreants quickly emerged from the nearby shops for the up anchors and away we go again. Adios / Bon voyage again.
We went to the Lido restaurant that evening, Theresa won a whopping undisclosed amount of American dollars which paid for another deluxe evening in the on board steak restaurant booked for our last evening on board. What an excellent way to end another day in paradise.
