Just a quick update to let you all know that I made it back to Cholula sana y salva (safe and sound). It was a great trip overall; it definitely had its ups and downs, which I will get into when I start the blogs on the week, but overall we saw some amazing things and had some amazing experiences. I am sure it will take me a couple of blogs to get all of the information up here. I am going to include some pictures of my house here in Cholula and a family picture taken the day I left for Chiapas. Hope all is well. ... read more

Hola again, I am still here, alive and well. Speaking of alive and well I spoke to my friend Ben a couple days ago, who is in Prague, and I was very happy to hear that he is alive and well. Anyways not to much has been going on here in Mexico, getting into a fairly normal schedule here. I do know, however, that it will be ruined starting this weekend, but I am happy about that. Last Friday we went to Puebla to see the Museo Amparo and the Talavera (pottery Puebla is famous for) factory and I do not have any pictures to share with you or really anything to tell you about it. It really wasn't too exciting. On Saturday, here at UDLA (Universidad de Las Americas) there was a big event for ... read more

Hey there! So, the biggest update is that I moved. As I told you all before my family was going through a hard time and I was sort of isolated and alone, but now I am living with a new family and a girl from Delaware. It is really great, because even though I am living with another Delaware student we speak mostly in Spanish in the house and she is at a higher level of Spanish so she is able to help me. I am also just a 5 minute walk to campus and a 5 minute walk across campus, which is great because I can run home and come back when I need something and it is down a short main road with a lot of people, so I feel much safer. I will ... read more

I feel like I should have a shirt that says "I survived Acapulco." Wow, Acapulco was crazy. I keep thinking about the city of Acapulco and I really cannot get over the number of people that were there; I cannot even begin to imagine what that place is like during spring break time. We got into Acapulco on Friday, Feb. 13th early in the morning around 7:15 and just did as much as we possibly could until we arrived back in Puebla this morning at about 5:30. At this point in the afternoon (almost five), I feel as though I was in Acapulco about a month ago. This is pretty much how the first week in general went. I feel as though the trip is going so slowly and like I have been here for much ... read more

OK, so everything is still going really well here. Yesterday, after classes, lunch, and our meeting, I went over to my friend Tony's homestay to watch the soccer game between Mexico and the United States (U.S. won 2-0!). Tony's family was amazing, they were so nice and they kept telling me "es tu casa" (it's your house). It think his family actually thought I was funny, because we laughed for like 5 hours straight. We watched the game and talked with his parents about spring break and what we were thinking about doing. Some people want to go down to the Yucatan Peninsula to spend the weekend at the beach and some want to backpack around Chiapas and to me both sound like great ideas. I am trying to decide which I would rather do, they ... read more

Hey everyone, I am not planning on updating this everything single day, but I would like to update you as I am getting accustomed to life here, meeting new people, and learning new things. I am mainly writing (for a second time tonight because the other one did not publish) to put up some photos of the school. I brought my camera today and I took a lot of pictures. Most of the pictures are just of different areas of the school, but one is of some of my classmates in class, some are of the place where we sit to have coffee in between classes, some are of the crazy birds, some are of the cafeteria, where we go to lunch, and some are of my walk to school. I am pretty sure that you ... read more

So I am here; I made it to Mexico and actually I am starting to get accustomed to this new world that I am in. By the way, it is freezing at night and in my house and I am not very well prepared for that. Luckily my host family gave me a small heater (which is keeping me warm right now) and three blankets and a comforter. Anyways, we got in late on the 8th of February and met our families at the school. That night I really could not see the school, because it was dark, but my host mother and sister said that it is very beautiful. I have since been to the campus in the daylight and it really is incredible. It is a real Mexican college campus (whereas in Spain we ... read more

Well we took the plunge... Since our last update much has happened and so many of our best laid plans never came to fruition... but a few others did. About a week after we arrived in Puebla I was offered the substitute teaching job in the primary school at the Colegio Americano. This is a nice schmultzy school where the wealthiest families pay lots of money to have their students taught by highly trained individuals such as myself (haha joke is on them!!). In all seriousness though, it is a very cushy teaching job as far as benefits and perks are concerned, and I doubt I could get anything much better in the U.S. at this moment of economic crisis!! Our second week in Puebla we stayed with the guy who is the contact for international ... read more

Hey everyone! This is going to be my way of communicating with all of you while I am in Mexico, at least those of you who are interested. If you want to comment feel free, if you want to contact me privately you can get me through facebook or email me. So I am getting excited (estoy muy emocionada) to leave for Mexico. I leave this coming Sunday, February 8th, so please do not call me after that date because that will cost me (well my father) a lot of money. I will be living with a very nice family in Cholula that has a stay at home mom that likes to cook!, the dad is a librarian, there is a girl that is my age and she is into singing and music as well as ... read more
