It's been awhile! We are doing our usual lazy wintering in LaPenita. Had a great trip down with the caravan. Larry and I were Leaders of a group of about 5 rigs. A hard job. Going to slow for some, going too fast for others, lots of Mexican sign posts either gone or overgrown with weeds. Anyway, we made it with just a couple of group turn arounds. Our longest rig was I guess about 60 feet including tow car so no mean feat!!
The weather has been hot and humid everyday. Around 30 - 32 C everyday and might drop to 25 at night. Humidity around 75 - 95 lots of days. We certainly don't have to work in this weather so how bad can it be. Sit on our deck reading with a huge fan blowing on us. No A/C allowed because of electricity consumption but no problem having numerous fans, inside and out. We are in our usual campsite #60 and are loving every minute.
Because Larry is taking Warfarin he is having to monitor his INR levels. Supposed to be between 2 and 3 but since being down here it has gone from 6 back
down to 1.92 by adjusting his meds. Apparently, the weather can do it. No bike rides, sharp instruments in that week!! Thank goodness we have Dr Lidia here in LaPenita that is great and speaks enough english to get by. The INR test is $100 pesos, about $8.50 Cad. He feels great and we are back to bike riding to George's for coffee lots of days. It is a 8 mile bike ride on some of the roughest roads you probably have ever seen.
We have Clayton arriving this evening. I am very excited to see him. He will stay with us. Larry has lots of golf planned. They will go to Tepic one day for golf (1 1/2 hours north), PV another day and then of course the local "Field of Screams" and all the high spots around here. Matejas for ribs, San Pancho for Margueritas in the sand, and tons more. This will jog lots of good memories for some of you that have shared our favourite spots with us. Went to Cave Beach the other day with about 12 others. The road has gotten no better, in fact it was down right baaaaad. Badder then last
year. The Policia are now at the gate taking down license numbers and checking passports. This was a first for us but I understand the weed business is great around there. Actually last year, one of the huge solid fences and gates were open at a little house in the boon docks as we drive to Cave Beach and it was jammed with pot plants. The ocean at Cave Beach was like a bath. We all floated on air mattress, noodles etc and BBQ'd hotdogs. Lots of great chat and fun.
Our street is full now. One great couple about our age are back this year with their tent for a couple of months. Last year it was a pup tent but this year it must seem like a mansion. It looks like they might be able to stand up in it. I could not imagine it.
A couple of opportunities are available for the New Year. There is a very old but clean little Bigfoot available for rent across from us. They are charging $35 USD per night for it. The campsite is $25 a night so just $10 for the trailer. A good deal for anyone
that wants cheap accomodation. This year Westjet flies direct into PV which is a huge bonus.
Also, starting around the middle of February for 2 weeks, our next door neighbours James and Karen fly home to attend their sons graduation from California Highway Patrol school. They have a dog, Tuco, a Jack Russell. Some of you might have heard about Tuco and his alias's but he has mellowed with age. He needs to be walked a few times a day and let in and out of the trailer a hundred times a day but other then that he sleeps alot. He is not for everyone and certainly not for kids. Larry and I could move over there if any of you think you might like to visit us but not sure about the dog. We would move there and you could live in our trailer for the time. There would be no cost for accomodation. Let us know, we are always game for company and March 9th is my 60th BD.
Ross, my brother is coming I hope Feb 17 - March 3 for the little trailer. He and Tuco would definitely not see eye to eye and
Our beautiful campground
Not our site! You have to basically wait for someone to die to get a site like this but ours is nice. I'm not completely sure Ross would win.
We had our 40th wedding anniversary and celebrated with friends at a lovely restaurant in LaPenita. Got a beautiful flower arrangement but of course they all look like funeral arrangements but the flowers were beautiful.
We spent a couple of nights with another couple down in Melaque. It is about a 4 hour drive south. It was nice to see. They were checking out another camp ground down there but we all agreed that we could not beat where we are.
As most of you know my 93 year old mom, passed away Nov 18th. Mark, Carli and Hiroko were there with her and I was there via cell speaker phone for her last breath. It was very peaceful. I was so happy that the kids were there and a bonus that I just happened to pick that time for a phone call. She was not anxious, calling for me or any of those things I might have let myself think.
Calyton leaves here Dec 9th as do we. He flies to Van and we fly to Edmonton for a week with Larry's family. Then home on Dec 16th
for a little something for Gram and of course the event of Evan's year, his 29th BD at Burger Heaven. Some things never change and that's one of them.
Have a wonderful Christmas Season wherever you are and let me know if any one is interested in any of the accomodation opportunities available in the new Year.
