Today the ship is in Zihautanejo. Mel (my sister) and Andrew (her boyfriend) decided for today’s adventure we should go to Isla Ixtapa. I’d been there in December with friends and loved it so I was happy to go back and enjoy it with them. We tendered ashore and got a taxi to take us to the neighbouring bay of Ixtapa. We passed by the resort and shopping area and stopped at Playa Linda - a beach at the far end of the bay. There we caught the water taxi. The water taxis are small motorboats - big enough to (tightly) fit about 10 people, including the driver. The water taxi took us out into the ocean and out to Isla Ixtapa. The water taxi dropped us at the end of a beach. The beach is ... read more

Back in December, when a group of us went to Isla Ixtapa, we passed by a waterpark in Ixtapa. It looked like fun. Since then, we’ve talked about going. Today, we finally did. Jazzy and I headed out first. We tendered ashore, got a taxi, rode from Zihautanejo to Ixtapa and walked into the waterpark. Then we were confused. There was no gate, no ticket booth, just a walkway leading into the park. We walked around and saw nobody. The wave pool was still but the slides had water running. We wondered if it was closed. Eventually we found somebody and they told us that yes, it was open and we paid our ticket fee. We got ourselves a couple of beach chairs and laid out for a bit. It was hot! We had to keep ... read more

About a month before my family came to cruise with me, I’d emailed them options for what we could do in the ports of call. The one thing my cousin Kelsey had to do was swim with dolphins. I’d never done this before, though it’s been offered on most ships I’ve worked on. Crew rarely get passes to do this tour and I’d never wanted to do it badly enough to spend the money on it. But I still had some money left over from Christmas presents, which I’d been told was to use on excursions from the ship, so it seemed like the time for me to swim with the dolphins as well. It was an early morning for me and I sure looked and felt rough when I met the family. We took the ... read more

Today we were in the port of Zihautanejo/Ixtapa, a sort of double port. Our ship pulls into a bay and we tender ashore into Zihautanejo. But the next bay over is Ixtapa and the two cities are pretty much connected. Zihautanejo is in many ways still developing. It’s a bit rougher and it’s where many locals live. Ixtapa is very developed and is mainly lined with expensive resorts and condos. This morning a group of us hopped into a taxi and rode over to Ixtapa. The drive was interesting, seeing the change in the buildings, landscape and roads as we moved from the local area to the tourist area. We passed by some spots we’re really interested in returning to - like a big waterpark! Another day, another day . . . Our driver took us ... read more
