Car chasing dogs
This pair strolled up to the corner where we were eating our nasty pizza (never order pizza at an Argentine barbecue place....) (not even if they have a full page of pizzas...). They waited for a green light and chased the cars as they moved through the intersection...no motorcycles, but bicycles were fair game. After about 20 minutes, they appeared to get bored, and strolled off again...Wonder if they come every night?? We had a pleasant taxi ride to Manzanillo from Cuyutlan...it's very close geographically, but there is no direct road along the coast. You have go south, inland and then north again.
Our hotel is full of Canadians, which is no surprise...they've locked up this area! The beach is white sand, and the water quite calm...no undertow, so you can swim as far as you like. But when I ran on the beach this am, there was a wide band of trash at the hightide line and more in the water. However, I didn't see any body parts, medical waste, or poop, so I decided I would still go swimming this afternoon. Surprisingly, the beach was almost completely clean, and the water clear too!
We are right on the entrance to Mexico's biggest port, and there is a military base here too, so lots of action....helicopters at times, warships and giant container ships pass by to the south.
We spent the morning busing to the big bus terminal to buy tickets to PV, and found the bus we wanted to take doesn't run on Wednesdays...we would have to leave at 8:40 am....too early for us! We finally found another
first class bus that leaves at noon (we hope...). We couldn't buy tickets in advance.
This evening we had a miserable excuse for a pizza, since the restaurant was out of pasta dishes...and out of Negro Modelo...and out of flan.... We stopped at a pastry/cake shop and got some excellent fruit and custard tarts to make up for the pizza.
However, the best part was our walk home. We had previously stayed on the main road with its wide sidewalks, hotels, and restaurants. Tonight we decided to walk down a side street and see what was at the end. (We are staying on a peninsula with the bay and beaches on one side and the commercial harbor on the other, but we could see what looked like a park or a forest on the harbor side.)
When we got to the end of the street, it was a dead end, with a high fence in front of the park-like area, so we decided to take one of the side streets going towards our hotel. We came to a narrow alley, and Bill wanted to walk down it, but there were three barking pit bulls and a grumpy

and I'm in the mirror....in our room in Manzanillo. looking guy by a fence on one side, so I said no.
Bill pointed out the pit bulls were tied up and that there were kids playing a little ways down the alley. So I said yes.
As we walked down the alley, people shyly said good evening, and the grumpy-looking guy smiled and did the same... We came to small park tucked into the middle of the block with a huge tree in the center, and children playing on jungle gyms and swings. A man on a bench said "Buenas noches" and I asked him at what time one switches from "Buenas tardes" to "Buenas noches" and a wonderful half hour conversation began....! We met his wife and children, learned about his house (a striking beauty), talked about Mexico's diversity, and exchanged email addresses...
This is why I travel!
