I look horrible
I look bad but I took this because of the sign behind me...I am from EL Paso, after all! Aw, wine.... I booked this trip months ago and did the appropriate research...Ensenada seems like a nice city. But I also heard some annoying things...the usual "vendors" bothering you every five seconds..."I make you good price" and following you around and not taking no for an answer... I wont get into it, but I did NOT want to deal with that this time. So when I found out that you go to a winery in Ensenada...an hour south of the city and sample good wines and get a free bottle of wine along with some delicious snacks and NO kids around?? Yes, please!
We boarded a comfy motorcoach bounded for two vineyards. Apparently these vineyards supply 90% of Mexico's wine industry. Our bus guide Melody gave us plenty of interesting info on Ensenada and the wine business. The trip took about an hour, we went to two vineyards. The first one was rather nice. I thought we were going to have to follow a guide around and be lead around like kids, but alas, we were not! We got to explore a small area on our own and sample 4 wines! I thought all of them were yummy. I especially
like the chardonney, which Im sad I did not buy. We sat at a picnic table with our wines, also eating pizza when a nice Californian couple joins us. They were a bit older, maybe by about 10 years, named Kelly and Kevin...I think. Well we got to know one another. When a guy dressed as an Indian/Native American (trying to stay PC) starts dancing to some sort of Aztec-y type music. (sorry I am not trying to combine cultures, but I simply dont know what type of music it was) he was doing like a raindance, type thing. He had insensce burning. Well for a tip, you would stand in the middle and he would dance around you and "ward" off evil spirits. This one hippy-ish looking woman is up there. She lifts up her ankle length skirt and physically puts the insince UP HER SKIRT! Which we all found hilarious...I suppose her who-ha needed some evil spirits warded off too.
Well, now its time to board the motorcoach again for the second winery, about 5 mins away, which was larger. We did have a male guide this time, although I do not remember his name. He was
excellent and very knowledgeable. We got a short tour of the facility and it ended in the wine room where we did ...you guessed it, drank more wine. Which, lets be honest, is the highlight of the trip for most of us. The guide gave pretty generious pours and most of us were a little buzzed by tours end, including yours truly.
We got a free bottle of wine each and I bought one for home.
Surprisingly, upon boarding the ship they did not take my wine away, and Lyle had snuck on some vodka in his pants which he purchased in one of the gift shops. What can I say? Alchohol on board is increadibly expensive.
Well...now we're on to the last few hours of the cruise. Another fabulous dinner, followed by the Mo' Town show, followed by a hilarious newlywed game, concluding in the Piano Bar, once again. Where...oddly enough, most the same people were in there again. Including a nice guy we had met from San Diego, named Tom.
Silly ole me had stopped paying for wine on board and drank on the bottles we brought on board. I love vacation!
But
Indian guy
Indian guy - or Native American guy (To be PC) was burning insence and dancing around... like vacation, all good things do come to an end. A sad end. But not without saying, I work hard, I play hard. I cannot wait for another opportunity to go away again. Preferbly, I'd like to travel out of the US again, but who knows when that may be. I consider myself to be lucky to be able to go anywhere, these days =) and I'm very happy, that Lyle, who, before me, had really never been anywhere or even wanted to go anywhere, I have opened up his eyes to travel and culture. Even if it is just on a cruise ship.
I am definatly looking forward to where life and adventures can take me. Thanks for reading! =)
