Small towns all over the Baja, but some are just gems in the dessert as quoted by Mr Wong known as El Chino the builder and founder of the original Hotel California built in 1947, made famous by the Eagles in the mid 1970,s. Being so close to Los Cabos the main town has become a tourist trap with numerous stores and multiple restaurants. The cultural center and the Mision de Nuestra Senora del Pilar Church are the out standing historical pieces. The rest is the beach, some with protected swimming areas, others with Surf and some so wicked the under toe would take you to China. The waves hitting the shore lines on the Pacific side were nothing less than spectacular, the waves breaking with their white spray along the shore, the blue sky background, hard to describe. The highway was just great, divided four lanes, very modern, almost hard to believe it was Mexico until we run into a couple of stray goats and donkeys on the ... read more

I guess you could say 2011 turned into the Year of the Turtle for me! Alyssa chose our volunteer project long beforeand I am still learning much about the long lives and longer evolutionary history of these intruiging creatures! Sea turtles spend most of their life swimming the vast oceans of our planet...some traveling thousands of miles each year! It is now thought that they are able to return to their birthplace because of a magnetic and earth's angle imprinting that happens within the baby turtles first moments of life. After spending 45-60 days in a nest buried deep in the warm ... read more
