English version follows: Du 19 juin au 25 juin 2015 Jour 17 - vendredi, le 19 juin Journée de préparation pour les cyclistes qui vont participer à la course demain ! Les deux amies québécoises s'acclimatent avec le vélo de Jeannette qui ne fera pas le relais et leur a laissé sa place (son étape). Pour ma part, je marche environ 5 km aller-retour pour aller au Walmart acheter des verres à eau. Et oui, hier soir, j'ai cassé trois verres en même temps. Voilà ce qui arrive quand on veut trop en apporter à la fois. Jeannette, même après avoir couru une heure dans la matinée, m'accompagne.
Puis, en soirée, nous partons, à cinq, faire une belle marche de 90 minutes le long de la Millennium Trail qui longe le fleuve (
http://www.ehcanadatravel.com/yukon/whitehorse/parks/millennium.htm). Cette piste est de 5 km et longe le fleuve Yukon. En tout, nous faisons près de 7-8 km, si on compte l'aller-retour à la piste. Il fait beau !
Jour 18 - samedi, le 20 juin C'est le grand jour ! Nous partons pour
Haines Junction, YT, à 06h30 pour y être pour le départ de 09h00. La course se nomme
la
Haines Chilkat International Bike Relay (
http://kcibr.org/course/course) et est d'une distance de près de 240 km. L'équipe les Joyeux cyclistes est composée de huit valeureux hommes et femmes qui ferons chacun et chacune une étape qui varie en 19 km et 40 km selon la difficulté du parcours. Je me suis donnée le titre de photo-reporter et je suis le groupe, avec Jeannette, pour encourager chaque coureur, au début, pendant et à la fin de leur étape. Je fais de belles photos parmi un décor magique : les montagnes, les rivières... De toute beauté !
La course se termine à
Haines, en Alaska, vers 19h00. Un souper communautaire nous attend. Du porc effiloché et des fèves au lard ! Tout le monde est content et fier de sa performance.
Après une longue journée remplie d'émotions, notre petit groupe de cinq se rend au Lynn View Lodge pour un repos bien mérité. Mais avant, on fait un détour pour aller voir la rivière et le lac Chilkoot.
Aujourd'hui était aussi l'anniversaire de ma mère qui a eu 94 ans. Bonne fête, Mam! J'aurais aimé être là avec toi et la famille et j'ai pensé beaucoup à toi !
Jour 19 - dimanche, le 21 juin Après un déjeuner copieux dans un petit resto de la place, nous faisons une belle randonnée dans le bois pour se rendre au
Seduction Point, aux abords du Pacifique, pour admirer le glacier Davidson. La marche se fait en forêt et je suis bien contente d'avoir un bâton de marche. Petits sentiers rocailleux qui montent et descendent. Mais, ça se fait bien et au bout de 45 minutes, on se retrouve sur le bord de l'eau. Sur place, nous voyons un groupe de jeunes hommes qui préparent un site pour un mariage qui aura lieu dans deux heures environ. Quel bel endroit ! Nous souhaitons au futur marié un beau mariage et une longue vie avec sa future ! Je prend de nombreuses photos des glaciers qui sont de l'autre côté du bras de mer.
Au retour au lodge, on prend un verre sur la plage, et on soupe dans notre suite au lodge : de la lasagne et du macaroni au fromage.
Jour 20 - lundi, le 22 juin Nous prenons le ferry de Haines à midi pour nous rendre à
Skagway où nous passerons une nuit.
C'est la troisième fois que je suis à Skagway. La ville est petite et est bondée de monde quand il y a des bateaux de croisière à quai. Nous dînons au Red Onion Saloon (
http://redonion1898.com), et après, pendant que mes compagnons de voyage partent en randonnée dans la Baie de Dyai, je choisis de rester à l'hôtel question de me reposer un peu. Je manque de sommeil et de plus, je ne suis pas aussi en forme qu'eux ! On s'entend que je suis plutôt du type pantouflarde. À 19h00, quand j'ai voulu faire un peu de magasinage et souper, j'ai vite réalisé qu'il n'y avait plus rien d'ouvert sauf quelques restaurants. Les passagers des bateaux de croisières sont retournés à leur bateau ! Je me suis donc acheté un "fish & chips" pour emporter et je suis retournée à ma chambre. Je ferai les magasins demain matin !
Jour 21 - mardi, le 23 juin Je fais la tournée des magasins dans la matinée. Je fais quelques achats pour ma famille et surtout ma petite-fille que j'adore et on se rejoint tous à midi, près du Saloon Red Onion! Manon et Lisette reprennent le ferry
pour se rendre à Juneau et nous (Jean, Jeannette et moi), nous retournons à Whitehorse. On fait un arrêt à Carcross pour dîner. Arrivée à Whitehorse, déjà, mes amis se préparent pour aller à la pêche. Ils ont pêché de 21h00 à minuit et sont revenus avec 10 belles truites (leur quota). On mangera du poisson demain soir. Miam !
Jour 22 - mercredi, le 24 juin C'est la Saint-Jean ! À midi, nous assistons au départ de la River Quest (
http://www.yukonriverquest.com). Une amie de J. et J. y participe. Elle est dans un canot de huit personnes. C'est assez impressionnant de voir tous ces canots et kayak prendre la rivière pour se rendre jusqu'à Dawson. Certains sont en solo, d'autres en duo, etc. C'est la plus longue course au monde de kayaks et de canots, 715 km. Les plus rapides arriveront ce vendredi. Certains prendront peut-être près d'une semaine, tout dépendant de leur vitesse et endurance.
Dans la soirée, après un délicieux souper de truites, nous faisons un tour d'auto en forêt pour voir si nous n'aurions pas la chance de voir quelques animaux. Pas de chance ! Mais, au retour, nous allons dans le chemin

Kluane Chilkat International Bike Relaymenant au Lac Fish et j'ai le grand plaisir de voir deux aigles immatures dans leur arbre, non loin de la rive. Je réussis de belles prises de photos. Au retour, à 21h30, mes amis retournent à la pêche. Ils ont vraiment de l'énergie à revendre, ces deux-là !
Jour 23 - jeudi, le 25 juin Aujourd'hui, journée relaxe pour moi. Je révise mes photos et met mon blogue à jour. Mes amis sont partis faire un tour de vélo et cet après-midi, je marche sur la Main pour connaître un peu plus Whitehorse !
From June 19 to June 25 2015 Day 17 - Friday, June 19 It's a day of preparation for the cyclists who will participate to the race tomorrow! The two friends from Quebec are getting used to Jeannette's bike. She won't be doing the relay this year as she left her leg to one of her friends. As they are cycling around, I go to Walmart (a 5-km walk, back and forth) to go buy some water glasses. And yes, I broke not one but three glasses yesterday. This is what happens when you try to bring
too much stuff at the same time. Jeannette, even after a one-hour run in the morning, keeps me company.
Then, during the evening, we all go, the five of us, on a nice walk of 90 minutes along the Millennium Trail. (http://www.ehcanadatravel.com/yukon/whitehorse/parks/millennium.htm) This trail is about 5 km and runs alongside the Yukon river. In all, we walk about 7-8 km if we count the walk to and from the trail. It's a beautiful evening!
Day 18 - Saturday, June 20 Today is the big day! We leave for Haines Junction, YT at 6:30 am to be there for the start of the race at 9:00. The race is called the Haines Chilkat International Bike Relay (http://kcibr.org/course/course) and it's a distance of almost 240 km. The team, Les Joyeux Cyclistes (The Happy Cyclists) is made up of eight valorous women and men and each will bike a distance that varies between 19km and 40 km depending on the difficulty of the terrain. I gave myself the title of photo-reporter and Jeannette and I follow the group to encourage each member, at the beginning, during and after their leg. I take nice pictures in a beautiful decor, mountains and rivers.... Awesome!
The race finishes in Haines, in Alaska, around 7:00 pm. A community supper is waiting for us. Pulled pork and beans! Everybody is happy and proud of their performance. After a long day full of emotions, our little group of five go to the Lynn View Lodge for a well deserved rest. But before going to the lodge, we make a detour to see the Chilkoot river and lake. Today was my Mom's birthday. 94 years old! Happy Birthday, Mom! I wished that I could've been with you and the family today. I thought about you often! Day 19 - Sunday, June 21 After a good breakfast in a small restaurant in Haines, we go on a nice hike in the woods to go to Seduction Point, on the shores of the Pacific, to admire the Davidson glacier on the other side. The walk is through the forest and I am glad that I had a walking stick. Small rocky trails up and down! But everything goes wall and after 45 minutes, we are on the shore. There, we see a group of young men preparing the site for an upcoming wedding in two hours. What a nice place and view for them! We wish the groom a nice wedding and a great life with his new wife! I take numerous photos of the glaciers.
On the return to the lodge, we have a drink on the beach in front of the lodge and afterwards, we eat lasagna and macaroni & cheese in our suite. Day 20 - Monday, June 22 We all take the ferry in Haines at noon to go to Skagway where we will spend the night. It's my third visit to Skagway. The small city is full of people from the cruise ships that are in port. We have lunch at the Red Onion Saloon (
http://redonion1898.com) and afterwards, while my traveling companions go on yet another hike to the Bay of Dyai, I choose to stay at the hotel to get some rest. I'm lacking sleep and and I'm not as in shape as they are. Let's say that I'm a bit of a couch potato sometimes! At 7:00 pm, I go out to do some shopping and I
quickly realize that I'm almost in a ghost town. All the stores are closed except for a few restaurants. The passengers of the cruise ships are back on board. I buy some fish & chips to take out and go back to my room. I will shop tomorrow morning!
Day 21 - Tuesday, June 23 I do most of the stores on Broadway street and buy a few souvenirs for my family and mostly for my grandchild that I adore. At noon, we all meet at the Red Onion Saloon! Manon and Lisette are taking the ferry to go to Juneau and we, (Jean, Jeannette and I), return to Whitehorse. We make a stop in Carcross for lunch. When we arrive in Whitehorse, my friends get ready to go fishing. They fish from 9:00 pm to past midnight, and came back with 10 trouts (their allowed quota) We will eat fish tomorrow. Miam ! Day 22 - Wednesday, June 24 It's the Saint-Jean for all Quebecers and Francophones throughout the world! At noon, we watch the start of the River Quest midi, (http://www.yukonriverquest.com). A friend of J and J is participating. She is in a 8-people canoe. It's very impressive to see all those canoes and kayaks on the river to up to Dawson. Some are solo, others in duo, and so on. It's the world's longest annual canoe and kayak race, 715 km! The fastest will arrive this Friday while others might take almost a week, all depending on their speed and endurance.
During the evening, after a delicious dinner of trouts, we go on a drive in the forest to see if we could see some animals. No luck! But, on the way back, we go on the road to Fish Lake and I have the great pleasure to see two immature eagles on a branch in a tree not far from the road. I take a few good pictures. When we returned to the condo, at 9:30 pm my two friends head back out to do some fishing. They sure do have a lot of energy, these two! Day 23 - Thursday, June 25 Today should be a relaxing day for me. I review my pictures and update my blog. My friends have gone on a bike ride and this afternoon, I will walk Main street to see Whitehorse a little more.
