Welcome to Canada Welcome to Canada Welcome to Canada

we entered through the Idaho panhandle. no problems on the shotgun, just a 25 dollar fee...i tried getting ken to caravan with us so i could stow it away in his car but no luck...
There is relatively little to say about this next bit of the blog... i think the pictures are far more comprehensive. Ultimately We are heading to Alaska-- having driven for three days we should be arriving there on friday, early in the AM if all goes as planned. Aside from having to change the battery in my car, everything has been going really well and we are thankful for the lack of complications which do abound this far from modern civilization.

For me personally this is beginning to take a turn in terms of personal significance due to the fact that I am now re-tracing the trip my family took when I was only three years old. As I see various landmarks, memories are rekindled and I feel a strange sense of familiarity as well as appreciation because I am certain that the arduous trip undertaken by my parents, with four children in tow, in a car that was literally held together with duck tape and garbage twisters, is at the root of my incessant desire to see more of the world. For that, I thank them both. There is no greater gift that can be given than the appreciation

as you can see the Canadian rockies are spectacular but their parks system enjoys raping you for every possible service provided- fees are 20 dollars A DAY and that doesnt include camping.
of the world around you.

I am hoping to meet Ken somewhere in Alaska since he and his girlfriend Naomi are also making a pilgrimage in that direction. I will post more updates as we go along, although internet is harder to come by here. Basically we are planning to do some backpacking in the Wrangell-St Elias Range, climbing near Anchorage and some more back packing in Denali National Park-- home of the highest mountain in North America! It sure is nice and cold up here- 30s and 40s at night, 50s and 60s in the day. MUCH better if you as me. Enjoy the pictures!

there is some nice sport climbs on the right shore of the lake but we couldnt stand the thought of paying for camping and not getting free food out of it so we bailed for AK...

wow what a photo collection. having seen these live at the tender age of 12 (thats when stephen was 3) i must say nature's beauty has not diminshed for the passing of time. however there is something to ne said for the modern digial age of photos compared to the photos we reminisced over following our trip to the great northwest. keep up the ever interesting reading or writings on ur part. whenever u do finish exploring the world i can see ur stories being top sellers or well narrated programs on da travel channel. good luck n lotsa love b safe. jr
