Thats no chipmunk!
I am afraid you have mis-identified the Golden-Mantled Ground Squirrel as a Chipmunk. The stripes end at the shoulders and do not extend onto the face, unlike a Chipmunk. Great pics and trip otherwise.

Not Mt Whitney
The picture you posted as "Mt Whitney I think" is not the 14,495 ft peak. Mt Whitney is the highet point on a ridge running north/south and the front range just above Lone Pine Calif. The east face is a 2,500 ft face that has a class 3 Mountaineers Route few class 4 routes and some delightfull class 5s on it. Was looking for some information on buttermilk country when I happened across you jouney blog. Sound like you had some fun.

I liked it!
This is good, where are you going to publish it? It is neat how you "let us in" to your thoughts and emotions as decisions are made. Makes the reader feel involved, even though some of us are not even climbers. You feel you can relate the feelings of doubt, pride, accomplishment, to where ever you are at in your own life. I liked it. Thanks for sharing

Bishop has the best bakery, I can't remember the name, but it is on a main street, with yummy bread! Dan put in for a job in the forest dept. there, it is beautiful, a little expensive, but beautiful

wonderful pix
wow what a photo collection. having seen these live at the tender age of 12 (thats when stephen was 3) i must say nature's beauty has not diminshed for the passing of time. however there is something to ne said for the modern digial age of photos compared to the photos we reminisced over following our trip to the great northwest. keep up the ever interesting reading or writings on ur part. whenever u do finish exploring the world i can see ur stories being top sellers or well narrated programs on da travel channel. good luck n lotsa love b safe. jr

Black Hills Climbing
Lots of good easy climbs in the Black Hills -- try Spire Four or Spire Two in the Cathedral Spires for multi-pitch 5.4 or under (ya gotta be skinny to get through the wormhole on 4). Guidebooks are traditionally sketchy in the Needles, from Paul Piana's "Touch the Sky" (now out of print) to the recent "Adventure Climbs of Herb and Jan Conn" by Lindsey Stephens. Good maps, but sketchy routefinding. That's the adventure. Ask a local at Sylvan Rocks (Usually up at the lake) or in Hill City -- lots of guides around too.
