Just after the publication of my last entry I noticed that there is one thing I hadn't taken into consideration: That my "Swedish" siblings Ann-Christine and Mikael are not able to read what I'm writing about. So I have decided to write in English this time, and I'll see how it goes. From now on, some entries might be in English, some in German. I hope that my dear German friends will understand everything, and I apologise in advance for any "funky" grammatical or syntactical errors :-). I'm too much into my English-German-French mixture right now ....
The days after my first entry were pretty relaxing. While François worked on his scholarship applications for his Master program, I read my book about the double of Saddam Hussein's son Odai (it's a fantastic reading by the way!!) and rented one DVD after the other: "Rainman", "The Bucket List", a movie about Rwanda, and "Funny Games" (ouf, but that's a freaky one ....).
For Tuesday, François had arranged a trip to an amusement park in Montréal, which is called "La Ronde". It's similar to "Europapark" in Germany, i.e. you pay once and then you can fool around all day long with
all the crazy rollercoasters :-D. We were around ten people, and had sooooooo much fun!!!! The only thing that really sucks about these parks is the fact that you always have to wait forever until you can go with one of the carousels. We waited approximately 1.5 hours(!!) for 2 minutes of rollercoaster-fun. Well, one can argue about the question if this is worth it or not :-/. I became pretty tired after a while. We were also annoyed, since the system in this amusement park is not really fair; there is a distinction between people, who have paid almost twice as much for a so-called Flash-pass, and the people like us, with normal passes. The "Flashes", as we called them, were always preferred and sometimes a rollercoaster was filled up only with them. This was the reason why we had to wait so damn long. ("This is capitalism!!", was the remark of my boyfriend.)
The positive thing was that I got to know François's friends a bit better. Joanie, for instance, is one of his ex-girlfriends and a really, really lovely person!! She always made a lot of efforts to include me in the conversations, repeated her sentences in
very slow and proper French (for me, it's very hard to understand the Québecois accent, so most of the time I don't really listen to the things people say to each other). Besides that, she bought pizza for everyone and spread all her love and positive energy to the rest of the group.
Sophie is a very skinny girl. François told me that she had been interested in him a long time ago, but she was not his type at all. Even the "natives" have difficulties to understand her, since she speaks so softly. She has some kind of a bone disease (not really sure what it is exactly), and this is pretty much what she talks about all the time. I felt bad for her, for her problems seem to be the centre of her life.
The big disadvantage of this trip: my sunburn. You will see the result on my pic ....
On Wednesday, François and I decided spontaneously do to what I love most: SIGHTSEEING!!!! We went to Montréal and bought tickets for a Hop-on Hop-off sightseeing bus, with open roof!! That was soooo much fun. At night, we went to an Indian restaurant to
Möni's sunburn
François's comment: "Oh, son of a burn!!" meet some of François's "Scout friends". Again, I was pretty passive, unfortunately. I always try hard to listen at the beginning, but after a while I just see my mind flying out of the window like a little bird, and I don't really make efforts to stop it. People start to talk about the past, about certain people I don't know and about things I don't know, and I don't dare to ask them a question, since I'm not sure after a while what someone has said and what not. BUT: I had the best food in this restaurant; prawns with rice and garlic bread *yum yum*.
At 10 p.m. there was - like every Wednesday - a great firework in "La Ronde", which we could also see near the harbour of Montréal. Man, I've been to Disneyland in Paris, I've been to Sydney in Australia: But I've never, never, never seen such a beautiful and amazing firework like this one!!!!!!!!!!! The air was so full of colours and patterns that it was a real joy for my eyes. I didn't take any pictures of this event, since it was important to me to live this moment without a camera
Argh, that's so damn pink
For a moment, I thought I was in Vienna, for there were so many carriages ;-) lense between my eyes and the sky.
I will add some more pictures which were taken with François's camera. Right now, neither him nor his camera is at home, so I will do that another day.
Well, yeah, and today is 1 August 2008, François's and my second anniversary!!!! He indeed "kept his promise" he had made two years ago. It was after midnight when he said, "I have a present for you." I felt so bad since I hadn't prepared anything for him. I'm always careful with these "annual presents", for I don't want us to stress ourselves with presents and surprises year after year. But he didn't seem to mind that I was standing there with empty hands.
He was sitting on the bed, both hands under the blanket. He asked me to guess what he held in one of his hands. "A little balloon?" I asked and started to laugh out loud. Well - it was an engagement ring!!! A silver little ring with two red hearts in form of stones. I had hoped soooooooo much that this would happen today, but I had tried not to believe it too hard, to avoid any
kind of disappointment.
So this is how we engaged: Shortly after midnight, as a surprise from his part, without a big party. Exactly how I had always wanted it to be - the big party shall be at our wedding day in one or two years ;-).
