See life size chocolate moose! Ok we have been in Canada for a while now and I have been slack in not updating...
QUEBEC CITY
So we did the big drive up from Boston to Quebec city on Wednesday... Except we made it bigger by getting lost getting out of Boston! We drove up via Maine which was absolutely gorgeous! The road followed the river for the most part which was really lovely and made a long drive better. Just out of portsmouth in Maine we had a stop to visit the life size chocolate moose, Lenny. He is made of solid chocolate and had some chocolate bear friends to keep him company, it was kinda cool actually... But very random hehe
So we then continued on north quite satisfied with finding a life size chocolate moose. We finally got to the Canadian border and after 20 questions we got our passports stamped and they let us in!
We made it in to Quebec city and discovered they were celebrating their 400year anniversary. As we were pretty tired and the weather was a bit dodgy, we went for a bit of a walk through the old town and around chateau frotenac, which
is huge and imposing over the city, but gorgeous and hosts about 600 rooms with no 2 rooms the same! Very impressive!
Old Quebec is really pretty as well and looked amazing all lit up for the anniversary. We did lots of meandering and looking in cute little stores and down tiny cobblestone streets. When the rain started getting heavier we headed back to the hotel and planned the next day...
We were both up pretty early on Thursday, so we went for a walk around the citadel. It is huge and still in really good condition as it is still a lie military base. We only went inside a little but saw most of what we wanted to anyway... After learning about the french and English invasions a bit, we decided to jump in the car and head for Montreal, our next stop...
MONTREAL
We had a few days in Montreal as we were staying with some friend's of mums. They were great and really welcoming for me as I hadn't met or really spoken to them before...
It was nice to be out of hotels, plus I had animals to play with yay!
Kim had a gorgeous dog, peanut and a cute rat, pinky, who I loved and mum kept her distance from hehe... And then I got the bonus of Rene, who we were staying with, also having a beautiful dog serena. I was in heaven with so many play mates!!
So Thursday night we just kinda hung out at kim's with Kim, Rene and kim's son Jesse, who also entertained us with some awesome guitar playing.
Friday mum and I got the low down and directions on where to go etc from Rene's wife and daughter, judy and aleshea. Set with their directions we headed towards St Joseph's oratory and mont royal.
St Joseph's started out as a teeny little chapel and is now a huge draw card or people making a pilgrimage and is one of the most beautiful modern churches I have ever seen! It is clear and uncluttered and HUGE! Very much a wow factor! We wandered around a bit and then continued to mont royal and the lookouts there. On a clear day you can see all of Montreal below you, but unfortunately we had a smoggy day, but still got a pretty good
Peanut
This is Kim's dog... she is so cute :) view of the city...
We headed in the city then and went to notre dame. You know that wow factor I spoke about earlier... Well times it by a billion! This is an absolutely gorgeous, amazing church! We easily lost an hour there just walking around looking at everything and sitting own chatting about stuff...
We had arranged to meet up with Judy and Kim to go to the jazz fest so headed up to meet them. The jazz fest was fabulous! They had a street parade with people on stilts and a aligator puppet and dancers and a band, which was loads of fun and we followed them down the street partying as we went along... We went and saw a band mum had picked out that played rockabilly type stuff... Turned out they were friends of kim's too so that was cool. Along the way we had picked up a couple of Judy's friends, rachelle and Pierre, and we all boogied along to the band. We then went to a Latin band that Judy chose and continued our dancing around. We had so much fun! The festival is great, so much talent and variety of music,
Pinky
and Kim's rat :) and best of all most of it is free! We checked out a cute little country act called little miss Higgins who is nothing like missy Higgins but still good! An headed home afterwards.
Saturday I headed into the city again while mum hung out with Kim. I went in to check out the massive underground shopping centre I had heard about. It was like 5 underground shopping centers joined together undergroud! So I spent a fair but of time down there window shopping and headded own to old Montreal and the docks area. The old town is really pretty and a bit European. Walked through the market stalls that we by the docks and just hung out for a bit.. Decided it was time to head home when it started raining...
Had a BBQ with Kim, Jesse, Rene and their mate Paul then back to Rene's to play pinball :-)
Sunday was time for goodbyes and a drive to ottawa, which you can hear about soon, but now I need to say a huge thank you to Rene, Judy and aleshea for letting us stay with them and looking after us so well, we had an
Serena
This is Rene's gorgeous puppy absolute blast with you guys! Also a big thank you to Kim, Jesse and nick for their hospitality and company while we were there, we really appreciated it!
And more importantly, happy birthday to aleshea for this coming weekend! Hope you have a fantastic day!
