Edit Blog Post
hey guys
so i know i havent finished the rest of the trips! but i thought id update u :P
so this isnt going to be daily like my other ones..mostly cause who wants to know that i spent the day watched 2 movies and sleeping XD
but a blog of just events 😊
so here is what i did for the 2 weeks i had before uni started 😊
So random order..just for funsies and to confuse u 😊
Mont Royal
Okay so random things i did- i climbed mont royal (okay cant decide if i should feature ppl in this..considering they do not get this email but ill see if will or not) with my friend who showed me round the first day! we did this on the weekend and it poured 😞 ridiculously sad..okay so the mountain is not that hig but come- its a MOUNTAIN 😊
we climbed to this lookout which was some sort of parliementry building but now is a restaurant! its really pretty up there despite the rain and and there were SQUIRLLS 😊
sooo cuute..and they have these drums called Tam tams- and on sunday every week no matter if its raining or not they come out and play sometimes there can be hundreds its only in summer though but its still cool XD
BUS RIDE (31st august)
was for which was for graduate students but the undergrad was soo full all the undergrads just moved days XD
hahaha
so we went on this tour of montreal- supposdly but it felt soo much like a school trip and to top it off we had a previous primary school teacher as our tour guide :P
we went to
- well we had a lecture on the culture of montreal and it was soo fascinating
- basically it was about immigration in montreal- the first records were when the french came over and 'found' canada..they found the native ppl then they left and returned 100yrs later to find that these ppl had died out..no one knows what happened to them whether it was a epidemic or whether was a war but the original locals of montreal dont exists anymore..rather the native americans migrated in and then the french came in the 16th century and settled here...it was then conlonised by the english for a while and then they had racist policies toward those of asian decent, not as bad as the white aus policy but had a requirment that u had to get to canada without a stop over, basically eliminating anyone from asian to come in because who would make a trip directly from china for instance to Canada
- interesting fact- st laurant which is basically the main street here for clubs and restaurants is also the main area for immagration..if u walk from the old port on st laurant all the way up u can see the diff states of immagration
- also montreal has the equivelant multiculturalism of NY
- the greatest cultural population here is ITALIANS 😊 strange ha? :P
- We then went to mont royal (hahaha..again..this time it was SUNNY and even more wonderful) i ended up talking to our tour guide on the walk up..and i now know- she has 3 sons...one of them did management, one of them something else, and one of them went on exchange to copenhagen..which for those interested app was extremely expensive..:P but he liked it XD
- old montreal- finally it had been a week and a half and i hadnt been there- its basically the tourist part of the city so shame on me XD but it was very nice..we went to notre dame which of cause is not as nice as the original but after the amount of prodestant churches i went to it was lovely..despite us nicknaming it disney land XD it looked like the castle from disneyland inside..outside it was a gothic style church XD its the basicalla there
around the are there are also historic buildings..most buildings in montreal are grey (i dont know why..i think to reflect the weather we are having today..hot and grey 😞) except this one that is red..it was the first buiilding built by the french.
- we also went to the Olympic park- they have the highest leaning tower in the world :P lols i swear canadians XD hahaha..we went up it was actually pretty cool! and they also have this are called the bio dome which used to be a velodome(ie inside cycling) but it was converted into a controlled ecosystem :P
apparantly they call the huge stadium the big owe (and she said it as the big O..i was very confused for a while- ...such a seedy person) XD)
- We also drove round a couple areas not very interesting except that the RITZ CARLTON has been bought over my mcgill as a residence (res) and i was like...why what idiots :P ritz carlton is my fav fav hotel in the world :P
Important facts
- so purely about the streets
- 3 main streets in montreal (downtown at least):
- saint catherine- its the shopping st with ZARA on it 😊 and all the other shops
- sherebrook- which is the st that the uni is off and that is a major area of downtown
- de maisonne- which is just a street between i think XD os far
all the streets in montreal run along their whole downtown..its soo nice XD have very few streets to remember XD but cross st are as a result a huge thing..u can never say i live here- say staint urbain -u have to say st urbain and rachel..thats where i live XD hehehe dont stalk me XD
Last night actual was a really good night for food (01 sept)
next list food
- rockaberry's - which is a really nice dessert place..they call it all pies but really they have cake- like lemon maraguie..and i made my friend get peach and strawberry crumble...delish man delish XD
- three amigos- which is this ridiculously outlandish mexican restuarant..we could see it from streets away! had huge mexican hats lit up outside - twas sooooo hilarious- but our waiter on the other hand was not impressed by us..i had a virgin pina colada which was mango and strawberry...yum..yum..yum :P
- Yumgo- which is this frozen yogurt place---amazing..basically u fil ur own bowl and then it is based on weight..oru can get good smoothies..i made my own which was lime yogurt (twas green XD) and mango and raseberries XD ...
- i am hopefully having poutine today..who knows what will happen
- i also have to go to diary queen which is a ice cream place..no idea if its good but app my friend is in love with it :P
- they also have a juice place- jumbo juice XD yum
- oh leaving the best till last XD FUZE FUZE FUZE (three times says marge will make u remember it :P) its the best juice ever..it comes in two amazing flavours- banana colada and peach mango----its soooo good..but u can only have 1 a day...its like this energyish drink but its good juice XD
