Niagara Falls
John with Niagara Falls in the background Here we are at the Marriott Courtyard in Toronto.
I am working out in the gym bright and early - about 5.30am while John is putting this together on my iPad and slowly, very slowly, waking on a walker.
Breakfast at Cora's - franchise with great food - interesting breakfast - fruit, eggs and bacon - all on the same plate but somehow it doesn't seem wrong. They do, however, butter your bread before it's served to you. Lovely, friendly people and found out it's in Montreal and franchised throughout Canada which is good news.
We had booked a full day excursion to Niagara Falls - which started off at 9.30am as we were picked up along the way to other pick ups at hotels in the inner city area. It was an introduction to this area and the life and local knowledge of the bus driver come tourist guide. He was very entertaining telling us all his little antidotes with quick witted humour. He certainly knew his stuff and was great with statistics on Toronto.
We arrived at Niagara for a 20 minute stop before moving onto to another area. The falls are enormous! The amount

The Smurfs at Niagara Falls of water flowing through is absolutely incredible. We made our way to a boat called Maid of the Mist and were fully decked out in blue plastic ponchos -we looked like cute..... smurfs! This boat took us right up to the falls amongst the white water spray. Very, very impressive to look at and very wet.. we returned quite wet and in disarray, especially the hair,
Out tour guide/driver told us of some places that tourists aren't normally told - so he said, of where to have lunch and where to go so we took his advise and went to the Sheraton Hotel's 40th floor restaurant - OMG what a view of the falls - it was magnificent. You can look at photos and films of it but until you're actually there you find it's just truly amazing and indescribable.
Off in the bus again to go to the very gorgeously quaint town of Niagara. It's just brilliant in its preserved presentation and main street shopping. It showed signs of winter coming as many shops had huge sales or were closing, or were looking for low paid staff to be employed to carry them through the

Just one of the shops with their beautiful gardens down times. The area was a playground for the rich, retired and workers of Toronto to retreat to as the housing was extensive in size and value.
The whole town was beautiful with gardens everywhere with even the street lamps had hanging baskets of flowers on each one and the shops had their own gardens out the front, the footpath had garden beds as did the median strips - just breath taking.
On our return trip we stopped at a winery for wine tasting and learning how the local wines were made. We were encouraged to buy local and cheap wine and expensive Ice Wine. Believe it or not - we did NOT buy any at all!!
Back on the bus for the long trip back - most people fell asleep but a few were listening to the tour guide/driver - he didn't let up chatting for long the whole time! We finished the tour around 7pm and the went to the Elephant and Castle pub (thought we were back in Adelaide) where we had dinner and a wee drop or two. Conked out that night!
