Today we woke up and got ready to go to Niagara Falls. We had a quick breakfast and set off along the highway. When we reached Niagara the sight was absolutely unbelievable! The around the lake there was Victorian Era housing. The falls themselves were massive, with unimaginable amounts of water flowing over them - enough to fill million bath tubs every second. When you drove by them there was so much mist that clouds were formed and a light rain fell. We parked the truck and walked over to the top of the falls, where you could see the calm water flowing peacefully in Lake Eerie before its plummet down 78 feet. After spending 20 or so minutes just watching the water and taking some pictures, we walked into the main building to buy everyone Adventure Passes and Sushi. The Adventure pass began with Niagara’s Fury - a 4D movie about how the Falls we created. The floor moved, water shot out of nowhere and if it wasn’t for the plastic raincoats we were given at the start, we would have been soaked.
After the movie we rushed downstairs to do the Journey Behind the Falls. This was such
a cool thing to do! First you go down 56 feet to to the center of the falls and walk down a long tunnel to a viewing area. Since we were in the middle of Horseshoe Falls ( Canada’s Falls) we could feel the spray and see everything. The water was gushing to the bottom about 8 feet beside where we stood ! Then we waked back towards the exits and took a left into another tunnel. This lead to caves allowing you to stand right behind the falls. We took pictures here and even found a small crayfish hiding out. He must have fallen over the falls, and landed safely in the cave. After taking our time behind the falls we ventured, back up to land and climbed onto People-movers - the oddest buses in the world. We took this to the Maid of the Mist - the little boat that ventures to the bottom of the falls. Since it was scorching hot out Dad, Shae and I decided to go with out the raincoats. The boat trekked pasted American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls right into the center of horseshoe falls. There was so much mist everywhere that
we got soaked and it was hard to see for a few seconds. The boat was, in my opinion, the best part of the pass. We finished off our Adventure Pass activities with the White Water Walk. We went down a 70 year old elevator to a boardwalk to take a stroll next to Class 6 rapids -the biggest white water rapids in the world. Pretty intense eh ?
Our next stop was back to the truck to get lost on the way to the giant Rainbow Bridge and also to be told by the New York boarder guy that we looked like tourists with our Niagara stuff and cameras. Then we drove out to get some cheap fuel and of course dinner. New Yorkers are kind of weird, they had a statue of a Buffalo with wings ! ( You know, buffalo wings the spicy things I thought were just chicken wings. Apparently not...) We finally found a suitable place to eat - T.G.I. Friday’s ! Which turned out to be both delicious and inexpensive. Finally we returned to Canada to take a 15 minute ride on a handsome carriage.
