Oscar's nose
I'm not going out in the rain! Alma to Nova Scotia
The rain was at it again this morning so we slept in a bit as it was so dark outside. Marg got her shower in first while I went and got a fresh cup of coffee courtesy of the campground. Pennelope is parked at Bay View Campground, one of two spots they have for travelers. The other 6 spots are seasonal so the campers stay there until the middle of October. There is also a 4 room motel and 4 chalets up the hill, they have the bay view. They provided us with firewood if we wanted a fire, cds or vcrs for movies and free coffee, tea or hot chocolate. They are a really nice couple and have a fairly simple operation.
Breakfast was at the Octopus Garden (right Marg?) which is a small café serving 3 meals a day, bakery, sometimes nightly entertainment, and selling blown glass creations. The young woman that runs it has always wanted to have a place of her own and you can tell she is happy in her soul. There is unusual music playing, (soothing), wonderful smells and a general happy environment. I had a Belgium
waffle covered with fresh fruit, and real maple syrup and Marg had a vegetarian Panini. We each had a specialty tea. Delightful experience.
Then it was time to say good-by to Marg as she had a 5 hr drive back to Bangor airport. It was sad but I was looking forward to making it to Nova Scotia.
We each went in opposite directions leaving 500 miles between us by the end of the day.
I hit the local Market Day event for the week. What a bust! It was more like a garage sale but I did get a pumpkin for Thanksgiving pies and a container of local honey.
At 10:45 Oscar and I were off to NS. The weather was dreary but warm and only occasionally hard rain so I was happy to be driving and not trying to see great sites.
I can’t get over how beautiful the lawns are here. They are just green velvet. The spruce trees are a rich dark green and the maples and birch are starting to change colors, some are brilliant. It sure is fall.
I made it to Nova Scotia about 12:30 and stopped
in Amherst at the visitor’s center to get some info and maps. I want to go to Cape Breton Island and drive the Cabot Trail. I made it as far as Antigonish and found a Campground to spend the night, about 4:45pm. I am going to spend some time tonight going over the visitors info and then stop again tomorrow at another visitor’s center to see what events are happening this week.
I want to find a cg on the beach somewhere to spend maybe 2 nights.
The issue now is the weather. This rain is getting old! Some reports say it will stop tomorrow around mid-day others say all day rain, ugh!
This is a good spot to spend the night. I have cable tv and internet so I will be well entertained. Along with the books.
Oscar has spent the last 2 days in the camper sleeping, he seems content.
I was a photo slacker today. Can’t drive and take pictures. Hope there’s more tomorrow.
