Day 3-Sat headed to Cape Bonivista area

Today was cool, high 61, overcast but fabulous weather. Headed north -30 min- to the tip of Bonavista peninsula which was sunny and beautiful. Stopped at several small villages (see pictures with captions), once in a life-time adventures. We were fortunate to travel the road to Elliston,that’s under construction during the week(even though we drove a large stone/rock road),to see the breeding area of the Atlantic Puffin, the provincial bird. Here’s today’s adventures:

Friendly fishermen just caught their daily allotment of 5 fish/ per day per person.

Newfoundland tradition
...of course the one fisherman reminded me of the Newfoundland tradition to ‘kiss the cod’ for good luck. I’m game and Max was eager to take my picture...several times! Everyone laughed at this!

Ahh the Atlantic Puffin
This was a wonderful sight- we sat and watched them for quite awhile.

Lighthouse at Cape Bonavista
This historic lighthouse was 1st lit in 1843.

The newsletter
Yes, we wouldn’t want you to miss it! At the BnB there was a wonderful conference room and of course it had a super view of the bay.

The pour
A full pour like this makes Max very happy!

Sat dinner- cod tongue with scrunchions
We had to try this local dish of cod tongue with scrunchions sprinkled on top. No need to explain the cod tongue but scrunchions are very salty pork belly. Very good!
