and so the trip has begun! With our groovy new roadie t-shirts on and our jam packed luggage we waited at the mount royal and said our final goodbyes to kt and banff....
after an emotional couple of days, in particular for rach and mandy, who made an entire playlist dedicated to their 'break up with banff!'it was finally time for us to pack up and move on. A big thanks to brewster who gave us one final free transfer to the airport and a huge thank you to the oh so lovely lady at the westjet terminal who allowed us to board the plane... It wasnt until we were about 30minutes out of calgary that we realised rach and sandy had missed their flight!! and so after spending a few minutes laughing about how their names would have been broadcast around the calgary airport and feeling sorry for the making passengers on the plane wait, we decided that we would play dumb at check in and hope they let them on, after all it was thanksgiving and on the movies it seems all airport employees are nice on public holidays?!
Arriving in beautiful Victoria with our posse of luggage we
headed for the cabs...unfortunately, considering the luggage mentioned included a snow board bag, 4 packs, 2 suitcases and 4 backpacks, we had to take two....but nevertheless we arrived at kali's house safely only to be greeted by a thanksgiving dinner!!! roast turkey, orgratin, roast pumpkin and potato and gravy; thanks brenda! we absolutely demolished our very generous self helpings and maybe even went back for more....mmmm turkey!
Day one in Vitcoria included walking along the beautiful wharf, devouring some absolutely delightful freshly cooked fish n chips (oh how ive missed you!) roaming the streets downtown, window shopping in value village, sleeping, visiting meg!! and going out to experience a 90's night like no other. An honourable mention to kali for managing to rise at 8am the following morning to attend university! thanks for letting us stay!!
Day two included rising bright and early, laughing at how much stuff we had accumulated in kalis house, picking up our hire car and road tripping to tofino ( a small little coastal town on the west coast of van island....beautiful little town, sweet as hostel and a surf competition...who could ask for more!!
*quote of the day goes out to sands, and i
quote "I dont think i'll have a nap because i might fall asleep"
Day one in Tofino.....after getting a decent nights sleep we decided to once again rise early to go and check out the coldwater classic surf comp that is being held in town....and so we drove to çhestermans beach' and watched the surfers do their thing...an amazing setting and a lovely start to the day! unfortunately we couldnt stay all that long, as we had already booked a cruise, and so we headed back into town to catch meet our vessel that was to take us to the natural hot springs (in would you believe it a place called hot springs cove!)
Tofino Trivia: Tofino has three neighbouring communities that are populated by first nations people, these communities are only accessible by boat.
After cruising out of the harbour on smooth waters (thinking we were in for a smooth ride) we soon found ourselves headed for some throw down! within about 10minutes we were going over what felt like 10 metre waves in search of whales. sands was in the back looked whiter than usual, rach had a grin ear to ear and mandy was thinking if i
had have been hungover i would be thinking something along the lines of fml!
We saw a whale! it was sweet and although we didnt get to see it for that long it was still pretty awesome. After experiencing some 'perfect storm' moments and seeing some seals, we headed for the hot springs. A 30minute hike and we were there. The pools were completely natural; none of this banff hot springs buisness....the upper pool was really really hot, like really, so we settled for the 'showers and one of the middle pools' until we acclimatized. The pools themselves were quite small but continued down a fairly steep drop to some more pools; the lower you got the cooler temperature the pool was....so that was nice way to spend the day....dont you think?!
so now the girls are 'napping' and i'm sitting in the lounge in the hostel looking out into the harbour, up into some oh so pretty mountains, and at the clock....its time to cook up a storm and get ourselves ready for a night at the dirty mac
to be continued....
