Jo... read more

Monday, August 8th, 2011. Redstreak Campground, Radium Hot Springs, back in BC but this corner is on Alberta time. 62 degrees and sunny this morning at 11:00. Starting mileage is 14534. Since we had electricity, we cooked everything we could in the microwave like a small pork loin roast. We cut it into 2 small 4 portion size roasts and froze them. Also cooked up a winter squash to have later in the week. Cleaned Rosie a bit and then both took showers. Got our water tank full and then dumped both holding tanks. We were determined to get our money’s worth. We drove about 5 miles to Dry Gulch Provincial Park Campground to get two spots set up together. We had found that some campgrounds had been full if we waited until late in the ... read more

Leaving Jasper in small groups, as the park passes require us to travel together, we detour off to Mount Edith Clavell. Named for a WW1 Nurse shot for helping prisoners escape despite the fact she nursed the wounded for both sides. On from there down the lovely windy 93A, to the Athabascar falls. Very impressive falls through broken quartz rocks. And then on again to the equally impressive Ice Fields Parkway, although we didn't see much of it with the rain and overcast day. Tonight is Radium Hot Springs, which conjures up visions of an American version of Bath. Nice enough town, with strong German influence (we didn't eat at the Salzburg) but the springs themselves appeared more 1950's open air pool than anything. The motel is very alpine chalet strewn with flower boxes and very ... read more

Another week, another adventure…. The whole world seems different when you have a car doesn’t it? We are certainly making the most of ours, and how our adventure this week, took ourselves to Radium, BC and Invermere. Radium’s claim to fame is the hot springs, and Invermere’s claim to fame - not sure! Anyway, we set off bright and early in the car and got to test what the car can really do (no, not really, we know the car doesn’t go any faster than about 100kms). Radium itself really isn’t particularly exciting, and is in fact kind of seedy. There are a stack of motels on the highway which look like they are available by the hour, and there are a couple of petrol stations - that’s about it! We went to the hot springs, ... read more
