flights-to-cairo
Experience Cairo and Egypt. Need maximum halt, so fly by Air. Search cheap flight tickets to enjoy most of Cairo and Egypt. Cairo’s awe-inspiring Pyramids of Giza, imposing Sphinx, fascinating River Nile, bustling city bazaars, enchanting culture and warm hospitality, and myriad opportunities to shop and dine like locals and much more compel countless holidaymakers into booking flights tickets to the city for rewarding holidays.
I was on my Egypt holiday a year back and visited Cairo, the largest city in the Arab world.
Every true blue Egypt lover booking tickets on flights to the country and arriving in Cairo has pyramids on their mind and so did we. Like most of tourists, we landed up at Giza not long after disembarking our flights at Cairo Airport. Without doubt and quite obviously, the sense of standing before its most identifiable landmarks, the Great Pyramids, seemed far more thrilling than seeing them so far only in movies like ‘The Mummy’ and ‘Transformer’!
The Pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure – biggest, medium and smallest - are the key attractions here. These pyramids were built for the Pharaohs father, son and grandson respectively thousands of years BC and even today fill heart with great appreciation for the building skills of the workers and builder of that age. To visit the Pyramids one has to buy tickets from the tickets counter at the main entrance. Separate tickets have to be bought to enter the Pyramids. Tickets are best bought in the morning due to restricted availability; and the tickets are priced as per the size; bigger the higher.
The huge evenly shaped boulders of the pyramids make for never ending flights of steps and offer great views from a height. The inside of the pyramids is rather suffocating – narrow passages, lot of humidity, heat and dust tend to make the inside experience somewhat a tough task. Cameras are not allowed inside the pyramids.
Buying flight tickets for our holiday during February was a good decision. The great mornings made the sightseeing relatively pleasant on the outside despite bright sun which was not swelteringly hot.
Outside and not far from the pyramids, the colossal and jaw dropping structure of ‘The Sphinx’ leaves every history lover taking flights for holidays to Cairo in awe. The structure with body of the lion and a human head is highly fabled and seems to have been built as the guardian of the pyramids. We spent a long time clicking pictures and gazing at this truly world class structure.
There is no dearth of guides and tour companies offering guided tours of the pyramids and it makes sense to get one when you arrive here; or better still, book one right at the time of booking flights tickets and hotel to avoid any later hassles. We were told by our guide to avoid the vendors at all costs who roam around trying to sell items; and be careful about the valuables like your wallet, mobiles, ipods, cameras etc as there may be pick pockets around. Luckily we had no bitter experience and found our guide to be knowledgeable, well informed and helpful.
When it comes to accommodation, what can be better than to stay at a hotel that offers spectacular views of these ancient structures even when you are not visiting them! Nothing can beat the views of Giza Pyramids that the 5 star Mena House Oberoi promises to holidaymakers. Located right at the foot of Pyramids, the property is every bit worth the money spent on a stay here. We saved on our flights and other elements of our holiday in Cairo just to be able to afford this hotel. And we stayed at the hotel for the complete length of our stint with Giza – 2 nights!
The property is as expensive as it is royal and opulent. But two nights at Giza is a decent amount of time to explore the pyramids. The city of Cairo has countless other lures that are worth spending time at after its star attraction of Giza Pyramids. And there is also no dearth of affordable hotels in the city to stay.
