This is Patricia with my two little ones Adam and Laila, they get on with her very well.. Pat will teach me some Ghainian recipes soon. Im looking forward to chicken in Peanut (groundnut) and tomato sauce. yummy :P Hello to all,
Well the heading speaks for its self really... hehehhee I think this statement is a great rule to live by. When in rome do as the roman's do... So that's exactly what I have done. nearly 90% of Kuwaiti's have a maid (or two) and a driver to boot if ones needed. Maybe a nanny also to help with the children but many maids do that. Envy was not the word. Every day I would see the maids washing cars, doing laundry, ironing (my most hated thing in life I think), food shopping, mopping..... you name it they did it. Great... Darling, I said... I want one... I sounded like one of those children you see with the faces pressed up against the window of a toy shop "I want one".. So being a loving devoted sweet sweet man, off my darling hubby went to get me one. Now, a maid who works in a kuwaiti house hold will wake at 6, clean the car, come in make breakfast and then get on with her chores. Maybe have an hour rest in the afternoon and then work well into the early hours of the morning. All for
Long live air con
Our favourite past time this month has become shapping malls. As the weather is so hot its impossible, even in the evening to go walking out side. Day temp 55c evening temp 45c. Thank goodness for air conditioning. This is a pic of Alghanim Mall. It has a very nice costa coffe that sells the most delicious cheese cake. yummy :D maybe 40kd (kuwait dinar) a month (80 sterling). Im not that lucky as I don't want a live in maid as yet, so I have a maid called Pat. Shes from Ghana and does most of my chores around the house. Shes also very good company and the children get on with her very well.. I love her just because she does my ironing :D Pat comes at around 8am and leaves at around 4pm most days. Its amazing. One part of Kuwaiti life style I like... Darling hubby is at this moment in time trying to arrange a driver for me so I can go out and about alot more.I have a UK driving liscence so driving here is possible, but they drive like absolute maniacs and hubby is terrified of me having an accident (bit of a loony driver in the UK, nick named damon hill :S)... so in a few weeks time a driver I will have in tow also... hehehee I feel like lady of the manor (not so impressive to all you rich gals out there but all my friends from Kent out there know where I'm coming from. xx
What else have I been up to. Well we had to extend our visitors visa as its taking ages to sort out our residencial visa... so hubby decided to fly us to Bahrain for the day. It was so funny. We boarded the plane, it took off and as soon as we were allowed to remove our seat belts the crew brought round a drink and small snack. we had just enough time to drink our juice and eat our snack and they told us to fasten our seat belts, they were preparing to land :O could have knocked me down with a feather., fastest plane journey I have ever been on. (I'm absolutly terrified of flying so I was being very brave). we landed and booked our selves into the Hilton. Touch of luxery.. why not.. when in Rome remember. hehee.. Our stay in Bahrain was very short and very sweet. We went for a lovely walk alonge the coast in the evening and noticed a huge difference between the two countries. Bahrain was less than 30 minutes away by plane yet it sold alcohole, pork, had various types of night clubs and .. ehem... girls should we say... the mix of girls and boys was also huge in Bahrain. This is a massive contrast to the sedate life style in Kuwait. No night clubs, No girl boy mixing, No pork, No alcohole (sold legally anyway, I have heard you can get it on the black market but wouldn't risk it.. ) It was nice though in Bahrain and we may well go back for a short holiday.
Well I will write soon as the children want their dinners and baths. Oh while I remember, I have had a few emails from people who came accross my Blog whilesearching or info about Kuwait. Mostly people/ families who will be moving here with their loved ones or hubbys have been offered jobs and they are moving over with them. If this is the case then please feel free to email me privatly and I will try and help with any info you want to know.. I look forward to hearing from you... All the best for now and speak soon...
Lucy :D

It sounds as though you've stepped into a very luxurious life, more with the driver! It'll give you a chance to see-explore and do so much more, specially with your kids! I felt guilty for just a couple of days when I started handing my laundry over to my friends maid here i Capetown, but it soon became just appreciation! Keep the entries coming!!
