sea of galilee from Anats house
had breakfast at our hotel in tiberius Aviv for the last time and packed our gear to go down the road to Annats house bnb which is closer to the sea we unloaded our bags and headed to Gamla

called massadah of the north because it withstood a siege for 7 months from herod and then 2 roman legions came and defeated them but with heavy casualties however all 9000 Jews were either killed by the romans or fell from the cliffs to their deaths.

this is an amazing area of the Golan heights and in the winter has an amazing waterfall but it was dry this time of year. Apparently Flaius Josephus was here during the revolt and may have even been a leader but he escaped and was later caught near Nazereth.

we then travelled to Har Bental but on the way we went to Golan winery, bought some wine and some books and then down a road to Yonatan kibutze just for Yonny and saw some bulls of Bashan and a bit later Pete saw some old tanks and we stopped for a photo opp.

at mt Bentel is a fabulous view of the

syrian border one side and the valley of tears the other and mt. Hermon behind with no snow at the moment. we saw the UN peace keepers and wondered what they would do if there was trouble ???

had lunch here left overs on rolls from last nights tea best lunch since the swamahs at Jericoh and a good coffee from the shop

from here we went to the valley of tears to a kibutze El-Ron. where we saw a short movie on battalian OZ-77 and the war in 1973 when syria attacked on the yom kipur holiday (yesterday) and Israel were nearly defeated being outnumbered 10 to 1 the syrians had 1500 tanks and the israelis only had 177 tanks the syrians had 460 artilary and cannons and the Israelis had 44 but the Israelis knew that defeat meant annihilation as they are still aware today they cannot lose or they will cease to exist. there will come a time however when they will almost be defeated but God will intervene and they will have to acknowledge their messiah who they crucified 2000 yrs ago. "Even so come Lord Jesus"

from here we went to the OZ-77 battalian memorial at the valley of tears where they lost so many soldiers and here there were 4 bus loads of new soldiers come to learn the lessons of this battle we stood here for a while and tried to imagine the chaos of war on the surrounding slopes.

we then headed towards home on the way we tried to stop for a swim at bora bora beach but it was booked by a private party (we have a free pass to this beach so we may try again another day.

then up to mt Arbel but it was closed so we drove up a dirt road at the side till we found a walking track that comes from the bottom of the hill we didnt go into the reserve but we did go to the entrance at the back from which we got a good view of the sea of Galilee and looked straight down on Magdalla

then back to Annats house for a delicious pizza dinner and a quick recap before bed.
