Drive in to the house
In the evenings bats will swirm around above your head when you walk down this road. Shalom y'all!
I arrived in Israel on 30th of July. Roee picked me up at the airport and we took the train for about one and a half hours to Haifa. In Haifa we were picked up by Roee's mother and she brought us by car to the city I'm living in, Qiryat Tivon. It's a small city outside of Haifa. It is very green and quiet. The garden is filled with fruittrees and herbs. The house is a duplex, Roees parents live on one side and the aunt on uncle on the other side. I live in the baesement under the house of the aunt and uncle. I have my own entrance downstairs. The appartment consists of a big room with a bed, desk with laptop, a big old chair, a little table with two chairs and a big coset. On the TV I have four different moviechannels😊 I enjoy them alot! In the back of the room you can either go left or right. On the right side is the bathroom and on the left side the kitchen.
Usually I eat upstairs, my kitchen isn't really much to brag about. Roees family consists of the mother and
father and three brothers. Amihai being the oldest, 18 years, Itamar 13 years and Noam 7 years. They also have a dog called Tiny, she is adorable. There are also a lot of cats walking around (belonging to the aunt and uncle), I don't really fancy them so much. They have an evil look and tend to hide in the dark and scare the crap out of me.
Bus to Haifa city takes about half an hour. It's a long way, but the view is good. Haifa is surrounded by mountains so there's enough things to stare at while dreaming out the window. I haven't really figured out what is the city center of Haifa. The whole city seems to just consist of a lot of houses climbing up the mountain. The mountain is Mount Carmel by the way, it's biblical site. Mount Carmel is considered a sacred place for Bahá'ís around the world, and is the location of the Bahá'í World Centre and the Shrine of the Báb. The Bahá'í gardens are gorgeous. They say that Haifa is the best city because Tel Aviv has the ocean, Jerusalem the mountains, but Haifa has both. The beach here is
The small basketball court
The two windows on the bottom belong to my appatment. the right one to the kitchen and the left one to the bathroom. very beautiful aswell, I'm just not a big fan of the ocean. The water is extremely salty and there are huge waves that hit you and twirl you around under the water.
The university of Haifa is located on top of Mount Carmel. I'll be doing an Ulpan at the University for the month of August. Ulpan is the name for language studies here. So I'm doing a Hebrew Ulpan. It starts on the 3rd, I first have a placement exam and afterwards there is a falafel-picnic on campus. It'll be fun I'm sure. During the Ulpan there will be day trips to different places in the area, we will have guestlecturers that we apparently have to ask questions to in hebrew (?!?!) and we will have a midterm exam aswell as a final exam. Exciting!
