Después de pasar el día anterior culturizandome en los vestigios arqueológicos de Pafos, este día lo dediqué a airearme en la naturaleza en unos de los parajes más conocidos de la isla. Está no muy lejos de Pafos, a unos 50 kilómetros, y para llegar hasta aquí, hay que tomar primero un autobús a Polis, y de Polis otro que llega hasta los Baños de Afrodita, la puerta de entrada del parque natural de Akamas.

Los baños de Afrodita es una pequeña charca rodeada de árboles, algo ciertamente muy modesto para nombre tan rimbombante. El mito cuenta que era precisamente aquí donde venía a bañarse Afrodita, y justo un día de esos, Adonis, que estaba cazando por los bosques de Akamas, vino a beber al lugar y se encontró a Afrodita completamente en pelotas metida dentro. Se enamoraron el uno de la otra y la una del otro y que estaban muy bien juntos, pero otras versiones dicen que de mucho antes Afrodita conocía a Adonis: desde su nacimiento. Sea como fuere Afrodita quedó cautivado de la belleza de Adonis y que Adonis disfrutaba de la compañía de Afrodita.

El parque natural de Akamas hay dos rutas de senderimo principales, y como no podía ser de otra manera, se llaman ruta Adonis y ruta Afrodita. Como ninguna de las dos es larga, pude combinar las dos y entre ambas se recorre una buena parte de esta península que es la punta suroccidental de la isla de Chipre. Una naturaleza bien conservada, en parte porque durante años ha servido a los británicos como zona de entrenamiento militar, y unos paisajes bonitos hacen de Akamas un lugar ideal para pasar el día.

Las rutas no son para nada duras, y el lugar es relativamente pequeño, así que con un día aquí tuve la sensación al marcharme de que conocía más o menos bien el lugar. Los dos senderos confluyen en el monte Mouti tis Sotiras, de 370 metros de altura, desde el cual se puede ver la forma y la punta de la península.

Antes de anochecer estaba ya en la parada esperando el autobús que me llevó de vuelta a Polis y a Paphos.

After passing the whole of the previous day to enlighten myself among the archaelogical remains of Paphos, I devoted this day to get some fresh air in nature in one of the most known landscapes of the island. It is not far from Paphos, around 50 kilometers, and to get there, you can take first a bus to Polis, and from Polis another one to the Aphrodite baths, the entrance to the natural park of Akamas.

The baths of Aphrodite is a little pond sorrounded by trees, something very modest for such high-flown name. Myth says that precisely here was the bathing place of goddess Aphrodite and in one of these days, Adonis, who was hunting in the forests of Akamas, came to drink in the pond and found Aphrodite completely naked in the waters. They fell in love each other and were well together. But other versions say that Aphrodite knew Adonis from the moment of his birth. In any case, it is true that Aphrodite was mermerized by Adonis beauty and that Adonis was happy in Aphrodite company.

In the natural park of Akamas there are two main signed trails, named, as if couldn´t be named differently, Aphrodite and Adonis. Neither of them are long of difficult, so I could walk both, and see a great deal of the peninsula and its nice landscapes during the day. This is the southwestern point in the island, with a very well preserved nature, perhaps because it has been a militar training area for the British, makes a perfect place to spend the day.

The trails aren´t either hard, and the place is not big at all, so after the day I left with the feeling of knowing a good deal of the Akamas. The two trails meet in mount Mouti tis Sotiras, 370 meters high, from where you can see the shape and tip of the peninsula.

Before dusk I was waiting at the bus stop that brought me back to Polis and Paphos.
