We left the western islands behind us and trucked up towards Donegal. Sean told us faery tales and funny stories, including his impersonation of the sing-song accent we were about to encounter. I know it's blurry, but this is the name "Buchanan" on the memorial. I'm kinda funny about my Scottish family roots.

The tour took us to all 4 gates and on top of the city walls of the city. The city is roughly divided into Catholic/Protestant sides...the closer we got to Northern Ireland the more prevalent this concept was and the more strongly enforced it became.

Derry was the site of "Bloody Sunday", January 30th, 1972. 14 civilians participating in a peaceful march were gunned down by British troops. We were walking on the streets where they stood, looking up to the buildings where the bullets came from....I've read about these things, but to be there was something else completely.

These murals looked back at us as we took the tour. I always feel almost disrespectful taking pictures of such things. Part of me feels that I should just stand there and look at them, reflect and move on. Capturing the image is almost non-sensical.
