Me at Glencoe
Can you tell it was a bit windy? Climbing at Glencoe.
Slow. Steady. Makes it easier.
Rough, rocky terrain.
I had yet another leisurely start this morning. We had a short drive to see Castle Stalker that’s out on a little island. It was a short walk down a path. A little nippy out there but the sun is shining!
We also went to Glencoe this morning. Quite a few rocky bits climbing up but we were going slow and took a few breaks to admire the views and running water. It was nice to see once we got up there that May made it to the top holding Mike’s hand. Is he trying to score some brownie points with the girls? Lol It was really amazing to look back down the valley where we had just come from. We must have rested at the top about 20 plus minutes before making our way back down which was amazingly quite a quick descent in comparison to our ascent. We were one of the first to make it back to the bus so we just relaxed on the grass. It was funny at one point this guy dressed in armour cam round. I think they were looking for

One of the views on the climb up. donations for the historical society or something. Pete was pretty serious as his friend explained that Pete made his armour he was wearing all by himself.
We were soon on our way after our walk to Morrison’s grocery to pick up stuff for lunch. Some people are so slow! I just ended up getting an easy pre-made sandwich and a yogurt and had some of my fruit that I bought yesterday.
After waiting for what seemed like forever we were off to Inverlochy Castle to sit by the water and enjoy our lunch. Now we’re just taking a small toilet break before taking off to our next destination.
We’re currently passing by Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain in the UK. We also just passed by a Commando Memorial. Apparently this is where the term “going commando” comes from but I think that Mikey was just pulling our leg. I missed the story though because my seat mate was asking me a question.
Side note, our driver Mikey isn’t that great of a story teller in the sense that he gets so distracted by passing cars and other shiny, flashy things.
Now we’re passing the Great
Glen. The mountain on our right is Scotland and to the left of us “Canadia”. So many people call Canada Canadia. It’s kinda funny. We were told an interesting tectonic plate action theory that states all the continents were joined as one at one point in time. Blah, blah, blah…
It’s interesting how even though we haven’t been driving great distances on the bus I still find a chance to fall asleep! Lol Oh yes, I forgot to mention the Campbell/MacDonald feud. From what I gather, the MacDonald’s took in the Campbell’s for twelve days and fed and watered them. The Campbell’s then turned around and killed 38 of the MacDonald’s. To this day the feud rages on. This happened in February in the dead of winter. It is rumoured that some fled to Glencoe, where we walked this morning. All I can think is that it must have been pretty darn miserable in the windy, cold and the snow as well…
In the afternoon we had a small break for Whisky. Now that is nasty stuff! It is interesting thee “burn” you feel in your throat and then it actually feels a bit warm! Definitely not my

It was really chilly up on that hill when we first got there. So cold my teeth were chattering! But I must admit after a couple sips of whisky in me and I was warmed up a little bit.
Now it’s off to the Isle of Skye. To get there we drove over the £30 million Bridge that seemed pretty high. It was apparently built that way for one of the Queen’s ships to pass under without having to raise the bridge. Then she sold the yacht! Lol Anyway, we arrived in Kyleakin and settled into our accommodations. It’s nice that we’re in four bunk share dorms. I’m sharing with Caroline, Katie and Rebecca today. They’re quite a nice bunch of people to be sharing a room with. The plan was to meet for dinner about 8 but that was about 1.5 hours away! So Rebecca and I went earlier to eat and then went for a nice after dinner walk before meeting up with those guys. There are only two pubs in town so it was easy to find the bunch at Saucy Mary’s but we moved over to the
other pub since there was more seating over there.
I finally got a chance to chat with the three French Canadian - Amelie, Valerie and Catherine. They were actually quite chatty once you start talking to them. We stayed at the pub til closing and then headed back to the hostel where some of us stayed up in the sitting room for a bit longer. I only stayed up til 1AM talking bollocks of course. Cate - oh so young - was drinking her face off. You could tell she had too much to drink the more she started talking since normally she’s a real quite one.
I got to know Shannon better and she’s just hilarious. She’s a primary school teacher and I think she’d be a pretty good/cool one to have. Katie is also a school teacher and listening to some of the stories was so funny and cute too. I guess it is quite common to “baby” your kid so it seems that Katie helps these kids to “grow” up a bit. This is where “suck it up princess” would come in handy. lol
May ended up in our room because she was put in with three blokes. She was a bit panicked about that so Katie offered her bed up for the night.
