It's so interesting to see what families living on private estates are doing to stay afloat with their high maintenance costs, taxes, etc. Levans Hall is one estate that we visited today. They invite tourists to tour their house (built 1350 A.D. & added on through 19th century), rent out their gardens for events/ weddings, movie nights, etc. They also have a gift shop & cafe, but still struggle to hold on to it. The topiaries& flowers were gorgeous.

Beatrix Potter wrote her books & lived in the Lake District so we enjoyed seeing the Peter Cottontail shops in the lake town of Windermere.
