It's been a while since we've written, much has happened. Stonehenge, a night out in the town of Andover, Salisbury Cathedral, and a day trip to London, followed by an early twenty-first birthday party for Jo, with her dad's side of the family.
Our first day in Andover, Bob and elaine took us to Stonehenge where we took many a photo. It's kinda boring, just a lot of big rocks in somewhat of a circle, with a whole lot of legends and myths. What surprised me (sarah) was that immediately beside the fenced in and gated stonehenge were pastures with sheep grazing. I thought if they were trying to preserve this supposed sacred site, why let sheep shit next to it?
The most fun we have had was going out to the bars and "Life" a nightclub in Andover. At LIFE we dedicated Usher's "Yeah" to all Canadians and when we got the shout out we screamed at the top of our lungs. All night we were getting our butts grabbed, and other very forward requests....
We met quite a few young squadies (or soldiers for all you Canadians), many of whom are going to Iraq this week. It was
a huge reality check. Most memorable was Gavin, an eighteen year old squady, who saved us from a rather aggressive and creepy Australian/squady. He danced with us after we turned him down.
When leaving the club, we walked outside and heard shouted from afar, "It's the Canadians...wooooh!" It was our new friends, also squadies, Garry, Lilly (yes he's a he), Dave, and newbie. We chatted with them for a long while, we walked to get food with them, and we continued chatting until about 2:50am. Tonnes of fun. We walked home, on our aching feet, and made it to bed shortly after three. We awoke at 8:00am. and took a bus to Salisbury, realizing how narrow the streets really are, two buses had to pass, and one had to pull up onto the curb. We made it to Salisbury in the cold and made our way to the Cathedral where we climbed 330 steps of the narrow spiral staircases, making our way to the top. It was a little unsettling looking at the wooden staircases holding our weight but once we reached the top, it was even more daring to walk onto the roof. It was a narrow ledge around
the spire, with a railing. The tight space made us feel secure because there was no room to move. we saw the entire city from up there. Then we had a Big Mac on our way back to the buses...oh American food...tasted like home but the milkshake apparently was different..according to Sarah..not as good...and the patties weren't big enough..there is no satisfying that girl...what to do...sorry the English didn't live up to the golden arched standard set in Canada. Got the bus back and then after trying to sleep and possibly suffering minor head injuries from the bumpy ride we arrived back in Andover only to set off again to Jo's Auntie Pat...her dad's sister.
We arrived, had a quick cup of tea then after dinner we headed upstairs to the shrine we call the computer...yes we practically worship it as we write our blog and try and figure out stupid digital cameras and their ways. Then headed off to bed fairly late only to get up early once again the next day to head off to London for the day.
When we got to London we arrived at Trafalgar Square and watched some filming for a movie called "The Centurium" or something that sounded something like that...one of those wasn't really listening moments. Then we headed to the meeting point for the tour company and headed off on our "Royal Walk Tour" which was about 2 hours long, we saw the House Cavalry...reminded Jo of Madonna with that high set long haired pony tail with their tassles coming out of their very shiny helmets...looked a little silly to be honest...but i guess that fashion hasn't caught back on yet...working with the victorian era...we think...sure to come back in fashion after the bell bottoms...
Then we watched the changing of the guards and headed up to Buckingham Palace and then finished the tour. We then hopped on the open top double decker bus in the very cold May morning and began the end of the tour...having to switch about 2 stops later onto another bus. We then got back of at Trafalgar for Sarah to use the toilet...good job she did because the next bus we got on had a very funny tour guide and was empty bar us...yay personal tours...yay Pete the tour guide...Petes over here are prooving very friendly...
After a very long day of seeing 5 Big Bens, 3 London Eyes and 12 River Thames and Sarah spotted the Statue of The Invisible Man...well she thought she did but it was invisible...we headed to the National Gallery which had some huge and interessting pictures which was free to see...
Afterwards we went back to Pat's place and had dinner then headed to bed.
Today we had a pre-birthday party for Jo's 21st and all her Cousins came over with their families making about 19 people in total. Busy day with lots of kids running around..
We ate cake and are currently doing laundry ready to leave early tomorrow morning for Germany.
So that's been the past few days, and we are posting some pictures too!!
Take Care, will write again soon.
Much love
Sarah and Jo
