Today is the day !!! The battery is fixed and seems to be working . We have a long day ahead of us today. Our first stop of the day was the first of our Holy Trinities. The churchyard where my mum , my gran and grandad and numerous other relations are buried . The church was built in 1851 to serve the growing population of Gwersyllt . It is built of a dark stone in the Early Decorative style. It is a conventional shape of nave, chancel and spire with yew trees in the graveyard . I remember those well from visits as a child. Our weekly visit consisted of putting flowers on all the graves and my gran telling me who was buried in the churchyard. My granddad in a corner , my great grandparents one set in an unmarked grave and the other set with ornate white stone. My mums aunties in various plots around the graveyard. A real family history but only up to 1850. Records were lost for the churchyard burials in a fire and no copies remain. We couldnt get back far anyway . It is impossible in this country We just dont have the
records available . It is just not possible to take your history back to someone great, famous or royal . Too much a leap of faith without much substance.
After this trip we set off for the second of the Holy Trinities . This time near to my daughters home. Gabby is parked up and we are delivering Christmas cards and presents. This church is lighter in colour , a soft sandstone . Inside it is adorned with Byrne Jones and William Morris stained glass.
3rd stop a St George for a change. Gabby is parked up on the cricket ground car park opposite the now close Bell and Bails . That ruins the dinner idea . We drop off a wreath at our great great great grandparents grave, Now we are back to 1833 . Its a slow slog this family history .
After all our stops we head off down the motorway for Chertsey. We are staying on the Camping and Caravan Club site close to the river Thames. Free WiFi , nice site but dont leave your van overnight as the river might just flood. We dont plug into electricity as we are testing our new lithium battery. We have been told it should last without plugging in as it will charge up with just one hour of driving. We are sceptical . Who wouldnt be with the recent attempts at fitting a battery. The ablutions block here is clean and functional but a touch outdated . But there is everything you could need and the staff are friendly.
We go for a meal at the Bridge pub . It is expensive . London prices . Almost £15 for a fish and chips with mushy peas which Glenn declares is no more than average. I chose a celeriac soup with massive chestnuts sitting in the bottom. Unusual to say the least but tasty . I think I enjoyed my meal more than Glenn did. Day one of the Lithium battery came to a close and it is still working . France tomorrow .

Christmas Cheer
It is weird to hear of the possibility of the Thames flooding while in Sydney we are surrounded by apocalyptic bushfires. As we live next to National Park we remain in hope we do not have a turn at potential loss of home. And you are at risk of flood in England. Happy Christmas for all of us for sure!!!
