Skegness
Snow on our car Left Skegness at around 10.00 a.m. with some trepidation because of weather forecast for snow and holdups to traffic. We went and bought a blanket and some food (biscuits) and one bottle of water in case. The snow on the cars and housetops was our morning greeting, and then as we left the city area the snow provided those scenes that you only have seen on postcards or movies. Fields covered in snow, fences with snow where the wind made it stick and then the trees, hedges, footpaths, and just about everything else had its own tale to tell.
Only about 20 minutes into the trip and we came across a roundabout with cars, trucks pointing in various directions and a policeman in large bright yellow parka waving arms and pointing. On arrival at his "welcoming" face he said the road ahead was blocked and we needed to go to Alford. So we said we are from Oz and what does that mean as we are going to Liverpool. Snow on the door eventually joined the M180 which joins the M62 westward. Snow became thicker as we reached the top of the Pennines and dropped away to nothing near Manchester to Warrington before increasing near Liverpool. A few drivers had come to grief, the worst being a 4-5 car incident just west of Leeds, but there were isolated cases where individuals had stoped for something.
Arrived in Liverpool at approx 2.00 p.m. and joined then family to take Erin to LIPA (Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts). Snowed again as we departed and that was a magical feeling. Some more snow overnight, and a little on Sunday morning.
