Fylde
Fylde - rich peaty soils Day 21 Preston - Hest Bank 44 miles (659)
After staying at my brother's house in Stockport I used the crowded rush hour trains to get to Preston by 9.00 am. After a circuit or two of the centre of Preston I got ny bearings and headed out through the suburbs on to ever quieter roads on the rich agricultural land of the Fylde . After a coffee at Kirkham I turned north and followed minor roads leaving the delights(!) of Blackpool a few miles to the west. Quiet flattish country with several sightings of hares in the fields. By lunchtime I had reached the north of the promontory and had a small detour into Glasson Dock at the mouth of the Lune Estuary. A good cycle path on an old railway line led right into the centre of Lancaster. After having a look around the town I followed the cycle way a few miles further up the river before cutting over the hill to stay with my cousin in Hest Bank
