Hihi!
Oh man, I had a good portion of this entry written, but not saved, and the entry was lost when the Internet connection ran amuck. Drat! Let's try again...
We decided to go to Covent Garden, and get into the mix with the masses. Our original plan to eat once we got there was temporarily stalled once I spotted the Lush store. Their stuff = goodness and, until the one in Cincinnati opens soon, there isn't one w/in a few hours of where we live. Bless his heart, Andrew joined me in Lush, where our sinuses were in pain from the overload of smells in such a small store. Once we escaped, we headed out in search of vittles.
A few blocks from Covent Garden, we found a place called Edmund's Ale and Wine bar, so we hopped (what if we DID hop?!) down the stairs and took a seat. It was a pretty small joint, which was nice, because it was quiet. We're easily overwhelmed by the crowds moving like amoebas around here. Andrew had fish & chips (i know, you're totally surprised) and some ale, and I had veggie bangers-n-mash and a cider. The bangers,
Green, Anyone?
This place is full of weirdos. if you will (snort), were made of carrots and parsnips and they looked/felt so much like normal sausage, I had issues for the first few bites. Ha! Andrew's dish looked great, mine lacked some serious visual appeal. It was right tasty though! Andrew offered me a bite of fish, and when I said "no thank you" he said "but it's fish." He's pretty convincing, just so you know.
We finished shoving food into our faces, then set out to explore Covent Garden a bit. As we waited to cross the street, I noticed the Stand Palace Hotel! When I was in high school (seriously just took me three tries to spell "school" for some reason), my folks brought us to London, and we stayed at the Strand Palace Hotel, so I snapped a couple of pictures of it since I'm a sap (surprise!).
We got back to Covent Garden and walked around for about an hour, and that was enough of being knocked around by strangers. We walked through the market area where local vendors set up, and checked out everything from weird-ass bouncing toys to beautiful handmade items. Us = done w/that crowd.
We decided to
Patient Man!
He braved the Lush store with me. venture over to the National Gallery off Trafalgar Square, and then to Buckingham Palace. Along the way, we heard drumming and singing. How great is that?! This girl loves drumming and soulful singing, and this girl's boyfriend is seriously patient about her ability sidetrack the two of them. :-) We walked over to see what was going on, and it was a vigil against the rape and torture in Zimbabwe. No heartache there. Ugh. I took a short video, but I'm not sure how to upload videos on here.
We lasted for about half an hour in the National Gallery, as it was so busy it was crowded, it wasn't overly easy to get a good look at paintings. We pressed on toward the palace, and it was starting to get dark. Yay! I remember seeing the palace during the day before, so I was excited to see how it looked at night. We passed St. James' Palace along the way, as Mr. Mappinator lead the way with his mad directional skills. Thank goodness! I just wandered aimlessly, attached to his arm.
Side note: My deodorant isn't working very well. I blame the tube, for it's stupid humid
Phone Booth!
If only they were so cute in the U.S. in there. Andrew doesn't even have to wear it. That guy!
The palace looked really pretty at night, with all the lights and fancy kabobs. We took a couple of pictures of the statue and the palace from across the street, as I think our energy was melting into our shoes, and it was time to head back.
We decided to have dinner at Carluccio's, and it was so good. Andrew had a dish made of squid-ink pasta, squid rings, and peeled prawns in a fish broth. I've named it The Ship Wreck...and apparently it's quite tasty! I think squid rings sound like a weapon, but what do I know. I tried their ravioli, which had spinach/ricotta filling and lightly floated in butter and sage. Oh, hello tasty ravioli! And we shared the mozzarella/tomato/basil appetizer, because that's how we roll. For dessert, Andrew had some brandy (I keep trying to like it, but it smells like paint thinner) and I had coffee and tiramisu to share. Annnnd, naptime!
Okay, we didn't really take a nap...but we moved like sloths getting back to the apartment after all of that food. We all decided to watch 12 Monkeys and
Fake Knife Tricks
Knives were real, his throwing, not so much. have some wine. That's a weird movie, but I liked it. It's pretty entertaining to watch Brad Pitt in full manic-acting mode. And ladies, there's a nice booty shot of Bruce Willis in the beginning. In case you're into such gratuitous shots. Snort.
Oh, evil wine! Somehow, four bottles of it were empty at the end of the night. Apparently there's a troll in here drinking wine when we aren't looking. Annnd, sleep!
We hope you're well!
