London
The canals in Camden Today was my first day spent seeing the sights of London. I figured that by going with Paul, he would know where everything was and we'd have a great time.... As it turns out Paul is from Southampton and doesn't know his way around London at all 😊 But we still had a great time discovering things and finding our way around.
We started off with Camden market. It's kind of like Brunswick St/Sydney Rd/St Kilda, but it has a huge market and a canal that runs the whole way through it. We worked out way through that market looking at hippy clothes and jewelery and colored wellington boots. We stopped by the canal for a while to see how the barges make their way through the gates.
We then headed to London to Trafalgar Square. Two beautiful big fountains, huge statues and lots and lots of pigeons 😊 I had heard of it lots... it's red on the monopoly board, but I'd had no idea what it looked like. We walked from there thought to St James Park and we had a bag of nuts with us that we actually managed to hand feed to the squirrels.
London
The canal gates They're still very very cute.
From there we went on to Buckingham Palace. Saw the guards with their giant (no longer bear skin) hats. More machine guns... It's strange, some things look bigger than you expected and others smaller. Buckingham Palace was definitely bigger than expected.
From there we kept walking to Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament and the London Eye.... Now I actually feel like I'm in England. I've been here for three weeks and I've seen lots of things that I couldn't in Australia, but it's taken going into London and seeing all the things that you see on TV for me to actually feel like I'm here. There's a stretch along the Thames where all of the above is in view and even though it looked as though it was about to throw down rain, it was an amazing sight.
We crossed over the Thames and walked past the London Eye and down to South Bank. Saw the MI5 building and New Scotland Yard. Tristan and Maria, I have a picture of the ugliest building that I've ever seen... The Tate Modern. It would make a good prison... it's that
London
Trafalgar Square depressing. It even has a tower that you could keep the really bad prisoners in.
Down the Thames a bit more we got to the Tower of London. I couldn't really get may good photos of it, but it is an impressive building. Very gloomy and Medieval looking.
It then started raining (of course) so we headed to see some friends in Chelsea to sit in a pub and watch the rain out the window while drinking cider 😊
