Our view from Julia's mom's tickets.
Thanks to my very generous relatives, I managed to make my way to Wimbledon yesterday with Julia. We couldn't have asked for a better day. We left Oxford around 9am with all of our belongings as we went to stay in London for the rest of the week afterwards. Julia's mom had been chosen for some very nice center court tickets and she had invited her sister-in-law to join her. Julia and I had ground passes but her mother was nice enough to let us sit in for a while to watch a couple of games. The weather was spectacular. It was sunny with a bit of patchy cloud, which was nice because when the sun was out it was very hot. Julia and I walked around quite a bit enjoying Pimm's (an interesting beer/lemonade drink - very tasty), a picnic and tennis. Everyone was awaiting the Henmen v. Federer match which was scheduled in the late evening. However, the match before hand was cancelled and therefore, the Henman match was moved to 4:30. For those of you who are not familiar with Henmen, he is Britain's joy but it was unfortunate that in the second round he was matched up

Julia's mom is very up to date with the happenings of the Royal Family. Unfortunately, no one famous was in attendence that day.
with Federer who is the 3 time returning champion of Wimbledon. There is actually a portion of the grounds devoted to Henmen called the Henman Hill. It is large grassy hill that those of us with ground passes can sit on and watch tennis on Court 1 and Center Court on the big screen TV. Julia and I staked out a great location and watch the Henmen match with our Pimm's. After the first set, the fans were pretty grim as it was not looking good for Henmen. In fact, things were very bad and he lost 3 straight sets. However, the Brit's dealt with it by taking their sadness to the bar. So Julia and I followed suit. After the game, Stef (DG from UBC) arrived as she was at work during the day. We had a third ticket and had left it for her at one of the gates so that she could join us. We went and had a Strongbow together, watched more tennis, made a couple purchases as the Wimbledon store and then left the grounds just after 9. It was a long day but we made the most of it! We returned to the car,

got dropped off at the "tube" (subway) and made our very long trip back to Stef's place where she has been sheltering us ever since. She has a very cute flat with her boyfriend (conviniently he is in New York for the week). This is our base for the next few days and then I am off to the outskirts of London, Weybridge, to stay the night with my relatives before heading off to Paris to hopefully meet Dan. All us Canadians are excited for tomorrow where we are celebrating Canada Day at the Maple Leaf Bar and also watching the football game England v. Portugal. It should be a great July 1.

Greg Rusedski???
Hi Pat- We all miss you soo much. Mom asked me to get on because she couldn't figure out how! (right click or left click?) Are the Brits still cheering for the Canadian turned British tennis player Greg Rusedski. Us Canadians know he looks too much like a Canadian hockey player to pass as a British tennis player. Mum, Dad and I are in Summerland missing you and Rob. The weather is fabulous and Dad and I took a trip to the gas dock and across the lake! Well hope you get this! Don't forget to push fluids (through your belly button) and eat digestions before you leave. HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!! love you Jackie
