Here's basically my thoughts on Holland and Amsterdam: 1. Going here made me feel, indeed, like a world traveler. It is very different when you finally go to a country where your language is not the primary one being spoken. Even though, yes, most of the dutch know English - there is still a bit of that "outsider" feeling which is probably what some of my students either go through, or have gone through having English as their second language. 2. My brother is right - they do serve pancakes 24/7 and they are awesome. I tried the bacon and cheese one and it was great. Also, the frittes, or in America, French Fries, were awesome. Bonus points if you can name the Anthrax song my title comes from So, day 2 in London was a busy one. After waking up at seven in the morning I quickly got myself up, showered and off to my day. I started off the day at the Tower of London. In the play that I teach my students, Richard III, the Tower is a very important landmark. It serves as a cold symbol of death for anyone who is associated with it (George, Duke of Clarence; Lord Hastings; and of course Richard's two nephews). Yesterday I took off from Houston after an hour long delay due to a malfunctioning bathroom. So, it wasn't until 10:30 this morning, London time, that I arrived in the UK. Excited, ready to face the London Underground and the city head on, I was then slowed down by a 45 minute wait through a feeder line for UK immigration. By the time I got my Oyster card and got to the tube, I was a tired, sweaty wreck. Most of this was made worse by the fact that I was carrying about 60 pounds in luggage with me. After one transfer and an hour in the tube I finally arrived in the Victoria section of Westminster in greater London.
