Me and Jennifer's sister! I actually tried the fudge cake, mmmm...Borough Market Wow, it's been a while since I updated this blog. The past couple of weeks have gone by incredibly fast, it's funny how that goes. I guess my routine is working out quite well now.
My day to day life hasn't changed much. Lynne was off work for a whole week and a few days due to her hospitalizations, found that she had a blood clot so she is on some medication but all seems to be alright now, she is back to work daily. So, she's got quite a bit of catching up to do but may be renegotiating her contract or getting a new position elsewhere. Dave's been dealing with the stress but was concerned about me - I am used to all kinds of craziness so it didn't faze me. I mean, I was concerned and everything but it wasn't my stress, at least not in my mind. They really appreciated me helping out when i was needed so much!
Oh, it's now official - Richard is coming to visit! He arrives on Nov.8! I am sooo happy about that. I really miss him but there isn't too much longer to wait now. He is also
Chloe and Queen's guard
Not as cool as mounties but really awesome to see and get pictures with! This guy actually seemed real, not a total statute. Oh, same one Jenni's sister flirted with - blanking on her name, sorry! my postal service bringing over my Christmas loot and sending my gifts home! How sweet is that?
I started taking an Alpha course at St. Barnabas, the church I have been attending. The course is on Tuesdays and man, do they know how to feed people! The first week I didn't know there was food but still had a little, this week I came hungry. Good food, good company and good learning, what more could a girl in a different country ask for? Smiles. ANyhow, Alpha is a course about Christianity, so far what I know is that it explores the Christian faith more deeply, the Bible and the related history. It's cool because you can ask any question and find an answer, some of them are difficult even for our leaders but at least you can put it out there. It's been a while since I regularly attended church and got involved more than just attending a service so it's very neat to be taking this course. I would recommend it to anybody, the beautiful thing is that you don't have to be a Christian or anything. It's designed for anyone and everyone. THe group of people that
I am with vary in culture from South America, Africa, Hong Kong, Germany, *me, Canadian and our 2 leaders who are English. It's neat that we are such a mixed group too.
Last Saturday I went to central London, met up with my Switzerland friend Jennifer. She is an aupair for 2 little boys in Totteridge, 1 tube stop from me - pretty close to where the kids go to school. Anyhow, her boyfriend, sister and another aupair came with us to check out the sites. It was really neat. I went to BUckingham Palace, London Eye, Big Ben, London Bridge, Borough Market. Borough Market is a neat place - tons of different food so you have to go hungry - so I learned. Definately a good weekend thing, open Thursday, Friday and Saturday. London Bridge is a great view, I never got to walk on it though. I saw ST. Paul's Cathedral from the London Eye but still haven't been there. Hmm, everything was really neat. Big Ben is beautiful, not sure if they have tours or if you can go inside or anything but I got some neat pics with it! Everything was really neat, BUckingham Palace
London Eye view
You can see Big Ben in the background there, neat! was a different experience because it wasn't as crazy as last time, not as many tourists and stuff. I found a great spot to get pictures with the Queen's guards, men in red...not a bad view! Jennifer's sister took a liking and got to flirting with the photographed guard, poor guy - wonder if he has to deal with that all the time? I guess it might be fun for a while, she found out he was 19 so he's still young enough to enjoy it.
I have been stiill hitting the gym hard and exhausted by the end of a day, need to go to bed earlier and earlier it seems lately. I got a bit of a sore throat but hoping it will work itself out shortly. All in all, working hard and managing fun on the weekends. I may have mentioned Catya (hungarian aupair), she is now referred to as Kate because I can never pronounce her name right and so we decided on Kate. So, we've gone on a short little shopping adventure in Finchley, a nearby section of North London. It's weird all of these places have names but they aren't that far apart. Anyhow, we are planning to try to get together during the week after we've finished work, try out some of the restaurants, etc. She is really sweet but unfortunately, leaves England in November. Apparently the new aupair is closer in age to me and should be nice so here's hoping! So far, Kate has been my best aupair friend. She's good to talk to and fun to do things with, not concerned about money all the time, etc. We have a lot in common because the kids she looks after are the same age/gender as my kids but 1 extra little girl who is 3.
I am going to Cambridge on Saturday with my aupair friend Begona. I am planning to take a 2 hour walking guided tour of the best places to see so that should be a blast! Hopefully I don't spend all my money in one place because I have a lot of Christmas shopping to do before Richard gets here. I am having fun getting and wrapping everything early, before he comes. I am finding that buying gifts for everyone else is more fun than getting new clothes for myself so I'm loving al the browsing, just need more money for the buying part! hehe. I do have a budget worked out and so far, I've been good with keeping it. I think I just have to save less so that I have something left - my revised budget allows for savings, payments and FUN!
Oh, I must mention that I signed up for a 6 week course for volunteer training with the First Offenders Program, basically you work on a panel with a youth that plead guilty to a charge, etc. I will know more about this to explain it better once I get in, starts next Saturday.
NOthing too exciting to note other than the above news so I am going to close the message and wish you a good week ahead, I will update this with my weekend news later in the week. Hugs! Chloe
