On our last Monday we took an assortment of trains and undergrounds to get to the Tower of London. Us being dumb yanks, we thought it was just a tower. (Well at least Doug and I did, haha) Apparently, it is an entire castle! They have these dudes called "Beefeaters" that were originally body guards/caretakers for the prisoners/guards of the crown jewels but are now essentially tour guides. Although we did notice they did their bit to keep people in check and discipline naughty children. When people in our tour group were chatting too loud "our" beefeater yelled at them to shut up. Very loudly! Reminded me of U.S. drill sergeants. A little kid got yelled at for climbing a pole; "Young man - get down!" And me and Erika got yelled at for hiding when my Mom wanted us to pose for a photo with a Beefeater. The beefeater shouted at us to "do as you're told!" and then said, "...teenagers!" So we did as we were told! Although we both giggled over the "teenagers" bit, since neither of us are one, but that's okay!! haha I'd love to share that pic but I haven't got copies of my Mom's

Aparently the grass grows so well due to the copious ammounts of crap dumped in the moat previously.
photos yet.

We saw the trator's gate where prisoners were brought in, never to come out alive again. And the bloody tower where prisioners were tortured, and we got to see all the impliments of torture, it was pretty gross. And I think it was the white tower where the two princes where smothered to death so that they would not become king instead of some other guy. It would have been so cool to go on a flashlight tour at night or something, but I don't think they offer those. In the day time with all the crowds it was not very scarey except for the Beefeaters! haha We also saw the crown jewels which make my engagment ring look like a tiny speck of sand, lol.
